I just saw my friend come back with pics from the Garfield Hospital Future Physicans Medical Camp and I was surprised to see that such programs exist. Since I'm from NorCal, is there anyone out there who knows of any other similar programs in Norcal (or even other ones in SoCal) that I could maybe take a look at for next summer?

Thanks.

Wow, sounded like BS, but I guess it really does exist..
It seems like hospitals have finally figured out a way to charge students for letting them shadow doctors. $500 for 5 days of shadowing? :uhno:

Anyway OP, I think as long as you can find doctors to shadow, a program like this would be a complete waste of money. Just try asking doctors in your town.

I've already shadowed a ton of physicians...I just thought the program looked pretty cool and it's definitely a lot more official than "I shadowed Dr. XXX for blah hours." Sometimes programs/camps are just more fun than doing it solo and if there's something like that over in norcal, why not take the opportunity?

Because you could be studying for your MCAT or doing something that helps people instead (or, god forbid, shadow a physician for free).

Shadowing is shadowing. Paying for it doesn't make it more official. It's pretty dumb I think. If you can set up your own shadowing experiences, you have more flexibility with your schedule and the docs you choose to shadow.
