i'm a first year med student in canada and since we've got the summer off, i was wanting to get some experience perhaps shadowing a doctor in detroit. i have 2 reasons:
1) exposure to inner-city populations
2) exposure to the american health care system
my goal isn't to practice in the US, i plan on staying in canada, but with regards to #2, since us canucks always debate about private/public health care, i figure it would be beneficial to actually experience both to sort out what my opinion is on the issue. for example, the culture here is one of a staunch anti-private system.
this is foreign territory to me -- how would i go about doing the above 2? who would i contact? i'm not interested in getting credit or doing research. it's more like a volunteer thing.
thanks!
