Summer Research Application and Acceptance Thread ( SPUR, SURF, SURP, SIP, AMGEN etc.) 2017

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Still silence on my end over here. Waiting on about 9 programs. GIVE ME ONE ACCEPTANCE

SAME! Applied to 11 programs and not a single email or change in application status. The anticipation is KILLING ME. Now I have to wait the whole weekend. Next week is our week.

I feel you both! I applied to 7 programs and I have an interview for Harvard SCTRP on Tuesday but havent heard back from any of the other programs I applied to. First week of March will be a doozy haha.

I can relate to all of this and more. At this point I don't even care if I get rejected from every single program I applied to as long as I get ONE acceptance...the wait is killing me!!!

Also, I applied to Scripps and they finally sent me an email this afternoon saying that my application was complete after I sent in my completed application a month ago...March seems so far away :/

Where did you all apply too? We should get a master list going of all the programs like they have done in years past! :)

Yeah, I still haven't gotten an email and all my recommendations were in before I submitted

I actually havent received email from them yet, even though all recs/transcripts were sumbitted by the time I submitted the app; Do you think it is reasonable to contact them on Monday, or I should just wait?
Also anyone applied/have experience with Texas MD Anderson SURP? Very curious about the program though found relatively little info;

Got in last year but ended up going elsewhere. What would you like to know?

Let's do it.
I've applied to
WASHU AMGEN
UPENN SUIP
SR-EIP
UPITT
URochester
RISE @ Rutgers
VSSA at vanderbilt

among others

@sciencenerd14 , most of the information I found on forums/website/elsewhere concerns specifically CPRIT program, a program that seems to be well-known and highly regarded. My interests are mostly connected to geriatrics, cellular senescence research, which is albeit connected but still very different fields from cancer resarch. Anderson Cancer center has some labs that are pertinent to my field of interest that's why I applied to SURP, but I am not sure about the reputation of the program itself - how good of an experience can you get from participation in this program?
P.S. I understand that the question that I ask might sound sort of "dumb" for some, but research application in the US is so vastly different from Eastern Europe that some of the fairly obvious things are completely new to me

Oh sorry, I completely misread your previous post. It's 3am here and I've been awake since 5:30am so I'll blame it on sleep deprivation. I was accepted into the CPRIT-CURE program. I actually did not realize that SURP was one of the options so I think it actually might be new (or relatively new) which is why there isn't a lot of info on it. MD Anderson itself is highly regarded so whether or not you are applying for CPRIT-CURE or SURP, you'll have a great experience regardless. They've probably just separated the two into different programs because the funding source might be different (NCI vs. NIH) or perhaps just to allow students the opportunity to conduct research at MD Anderson in fields that connect to cancer (aka aging) even if they aren't directly interested in cancer. I wouldn't worry too much about SURP vs. CPRIT-CURE because these undergraduate outreach for graduate recruitment programs are generally run by the same office within the institution so you'll get the same caliber experience in both programs (the person of contact for both CPRIT-CURE and SURP are the same). Hopefully that helps in some way!

Just to begin the master list. Copy and paste from here! Added a new section so we can better elucidate the process for next year's applicants!

*Side note, I believe that some of the Amgen programs are making their first decisions on/around Feb 22nd (at least on the committee level) and possibly could begin notifications then. Columbia and MIT both set the 22nd as deadlines for when they needed information from me (for different reasons) so I'm basing my information off of that.

Also, in regards to your Scripps application, my transcripts and recommendations say that they haven't been reviewed yet by the Grad office so I'm not sure what that means. Perhaps, they're making their way through them?

Has anyone applied to Harvard AMGEN in the past? If so, when were you notified if you got an interview or not?
Thanks!

@Lucca congrats on becoming a mod! :) with your newly vested powers could you help us merge the two summer research 2017 threads into one and stick it into preallo? Lmao I think this would help premeds as whole more than keeping the thread here in the somewhat obscure part of SDN.

Hello friends.

I applied to Mayo, Johns Hopkins, UT-Houston (already did research here the summer of my Freshman year, applying to the same mentor), and The DeBakey Summer Surgery Program.

Still waiting to hear from all of them.

3.99 GPA
Relevant EC's: From my summer at UT-Houston I have two publications (First author and fourth author). Two years of research in Neuroscience lab at my school. Editor of my school's undergrad research journal.

PS. Everyone should chill. Most acceptances for these don't get sent out until mid March. Most of us will have silence for a while...

You have a great app! I bet you will get into some great places :) also I hope you get the MCAT score you were hoping for!

I would also recommend adding your programs to the master list that we have going.

I hope so too. 8 more days til MCAT score is released *fingers crossed*

No. Usually these programs start making noise around the first week of March. I've done a couple of these before. Expect this thread to explode next week.

I don't want explosions... I just want mild sparks with an acceptance in there somewhere.

Everything seems to be later this year; Dont know about NYU, but Mayo gave away first acceptances a week ago last year (based on last year's thread)

It was Feb 24th last year which was the 4th Wednesday in Feb last year.

Sent from my SM-G930P using SDN mobile
