First, a little background info: I really, really want to do research this summer before starting med school in the fall, but as I understand it, since I already have a degree and am not in school anymore I don't qualify for the REU and SURE programs. I've been accepted to Wash U, one of my top choices, and they sent me information about summer research opportunities. However, I'm still hoping to get accepted (or pulled off the wait list) at my absolute top choice med school sometime before school starts.

Now my question is, does doing summer research at WashU mean I'm basically committing 100% to going there? Or would it be perfectly acceptable for me to decline my acceptance later, either before or during the summer research?
