I am planning to take the Ochem sequence in summer while preparing for the August MCAT (w/Kaplan). I want to do lab with the first, but not second part, so I can dedicate more time to MCAT as it gets closer. What do you-who have-been-there think? I'm already used to the hard work and no life of a serious post-bacc...

Thanks for any warnings or words of encouragement...

PS. I actually kind of like chemistry, and got/am getting A's in Gen Chem.

It's definitely doable. I took both parts of orgo last summer and the August MCAT. You really have to be focused and immerse yourself in your studies. Try to minimize outside distractions. It's only a few months of real hard work and it goes by fast. If you kick ass on orgo, you won't even have to study orgo for the MCAT as it will still be fresh. But don't leave MCAT study till the end of the summer just because you don't know any orgo. Practice taking old exams and passages like crazy. It's the best way to learn. Good luck.

I agree - it can be done, and done well. I took both parts of organic with lab while taking Kaplan in 2000. You MUST manage your time and sacrifice. I now teach for Kaplan :) Good luck!

I just want to say you guys are all insane!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> You all deserve a pat on the back. I took orgo during the summer while working part-time and volunteering. I just about croaked doing that.

No way! I took organic over a summer, and that's all I did. I prepared for the MCAT over the summer, and that's all I did. No way in hell could I have combined them!! But, obviously, others disagree. Maybe it's doable for you.

    Grazie...
That's kind of my philosophy, too, abefroman. Spend the summer in the library and have more freedom later. And it's not like San Francisco has a real summer anyway. I'll just be missing out on spending time in the fog!

I would say it's impossible! (or at least very difficult). I took orgo over the summer with lab and it consumed all of my time to get those A's! There is no way I could have put in enough effort to study for the MCAT too. If you choose to do them together you could be putting yourself at a significant disadvantage compared to others who have all the time in the world to devote JUST to the mcat.

well good luck with whatever you choose to do :)
