I know, you hate these threads, but thanks in advance for your advice!!:biglove:

I'm from FL, lived here my whole life, so that's a major issue. I like snow but I think the hassle would catch up with me. Price is about the same after the first year (become NY resident), so that doesn't help. I like that Buffalo gets out @ noon every day- very attractive. Does anyone know any differences in curriculum? I hate Tampa traffic, was planning on living in Elmwood village in Buffalo and walking everywhere. I like being in the thick of it, so maybe South Tampa will suffice. Any other opinions are greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went to school in the buffalo area and it snows ALOT.. if youre not a snow person think twice (Im even from an area where it does snow some). The snow is significant enough that you will notice it inconvenience you regularly if youre not used to it and need to drive around especially.

Generally, my friends from Florida hated being up there, so take that with a grain of salt.

OMG live in temple terrace and get over the traffic it is SOOO much better than walking to school in the snow. Or you could live in Brandon at one of those apartments right on 75 (housing is much cheaper out there), then you're really close to Tampa if you want to go on the weekends or what not. I know what I would do, I also grew up in Tampa I've been going to grad school in up state new york and you couldn't pay me (or make me pay 1 yr oos tuition) to live up here if I had a chance to be back in Tampa. It is so cold and miserable and the sun sets at 4:30 in the afternoon. I'm totally serious stay in Tampa.
I walk to school every day, and you can do it, it is just miserable. There's no sense in putting extra misery in your first year of med school.

Sorry if I sounded harsh you should make your own decisions and probably incorporate more than weather. I'm just saying that I apparently live beneath the "snowbelt" that Buffalo is a part of and the weather is a pretty big hassle (I slipped off the road 3 times this winter before I decided snow tires might be a good investment). It's just really cold, and the sun doesn't shine enough.

The sun goes down at 4:30 even in the summer?

Duh guys, didn't you ever take a geography class? Buffalo is in the Arctic Circle, which means that they have 6 months of darkness and 6 months of light. The Aurora Borealis is pretty though.

Watch out for the rabid polar bears during the months of darkness. I would go with USF, Buffalo snow is supposed to be really bad and there many places with worse traffic than Tampa.
