The Christian Ophthalmology Society (COS) is hosting the annual meeting this year at Lake Junaluska in Western North Carolina from August 2-6, 2017. As part of the annual meeting, residents are given the opportunity to present their best case at the Super Bowl of Grand Rounds session.

Apply for a grant to come to the meeting here: http://www.cosw.org/junaluska/grant-application
Grant recipients will receive FREE lodging/food/registration during the conference. This is a family friendly event, spouses and children welcome!
The best submitted cases will be chosen to present, however others not chosen will also be considered for a grant to attend the conference. Hope to see everyone there!

Also: this year's theme is "Pursuing Excellence" with a focus on Glaucoma and more specifically MIGS.

We have a MIGS wetlab planned with multiple procedures (7 so far!) being demonstrated, national leaders in the field to lead the wetlab, and some great speakers.

And on a less-technical note, Junaluska is a really cool area with lots of things to do outside of the conference like ziplining, rafting, or just enjoying the Blue Ridge mountains!

Hope to see some of you there!

Highly recommend this conference. I went several times as a grant recipient during residency and now have been several times out in practice.
Look forward to it every year for the quality and topics of the conference as well as for the gatherings with other Christian ophthalmologists. The venue/city change every year which is a nice chance to see different parts of the country. Hope anyone can make it if that sparks your interest.

Thanks LOA! Hope you can make it again this year!

I'd also like to note that this year we will also have a poster exhibition, so if you need somewhere to display your research or other projects - COS 2017 is a great opportunity! The venue is great this year and there are some phenomenal presenters. You won't find a conference as inclusive of family as COS either - there is child care, and a separate program just for spouses of Ophthalmologists!

The Super Bowl of Grand Rounds has been a great addition to the Christian Ophthalmology Society meeting. Residents, fellows, and students get to showcase their most interesting cases (many of which come from fine academic institutions or mission trips in the third world). The atmosphere is very laid back, so please don't feel intimidated to submit a case. And it's a great way to attend the conference on a grant and be able say that you've presented at a national meeting.

Just wanted to mention a couple of things to those making travel plans to the meeting - it seems like the best option is to fly to a nearby airport and rent a car and drive a short bit to Lake Junaluska. Lake Junaluska is a bit secluded which makes it such a great destination but since it isn't easily accessible by taxi. A rental car will let you get around the area and explore more too!

Two nearby airports that a lot of people are choosing are Greenville, SC or Asheville, NC. When I went to there I picked the longer drive up from Greenville because air fare was cheaper and the drive was really pretty. There were plenty of rental car options there.

The meeting is going to be great! Hope to see you there!
