So I plan on getting some electives to do in Surgery at some University Hospitals. I am kind of nervous as I am a US img, but I really don't know how the system works in the states. I don't want to look stupid, especially on my first elective, as I am going to try to get interviews at these places. Is there anything I should do to get ready? Should I learn to suture/take bloods a lot better? Learn the name of surgical instruments? And, when they say you have to manage patients, does that mean for instance you should know doses of drugs to give etc?
Also, if you do a sub I, what extra duties does that entail compared to an elective? And, I plan on doing one of my electives/subI-s in an Ivy league place...Should I be worried about looking really stupid next to really, really smart medical students?
