Have a few questions as someone who (if all goes well) would be finishing med school in mid 30s:

1) How do surgery residency programs treat older applicants during match? Any biases towards younger, more traditional candidates? Is it cliqueish?

2) Anyone who actually made it into any surg residency as an older non-trad, what was your experience? Did you feel awkward, discriminated, out-of-place?

3) Was it worth it putting yourself through a surg residency as an older person (with potential family/spouse obligations)?

There was a post about this a while back and the consensus was age doesn't matter, so long as your age is to the point where you may not be able to keep up with the workload (think retirement age). Mid 30s shouldn't be a problem at all, according to the residents/physicians who posted on that thread which I can't locate.
