So I’ve had gynecomastia since I was 14, I want to finally take the leap and have the cosmetic surgery ASAP (preferably over spring break to give myself a couple of days of rest). I’m currently in the HPSP, and I know people in the military have had the procedure before but I’m wondering what steps I need to take right now? Is there someone I need to email about it or what? Thanks in advance.

Edit: I’m Navy HPSP

Command has to approve it as an elective (I'm not kidding!) even if not done at an MTF especially if done by civilian even if you pay for it (it is possible to actually get permission to get this done at the MTF). You don't get to make that choice by yourself. I believe the procedure for Navy is to talk to the unit command about this and the leave requirement preapproval and SF 600 paperwork. PHS has a different way of going about it which is much less intrusive.

This is honestly a dumb question, but they’re not going to kick me out or anything for asking are they? I didn’t know I had the condition until a few weeks ago and I commissioned a year ago. Having gynecomastia isn’t something they would discharge you for is it?
