Are you or anyone you know switching to Radiology from another specialty and what is your reason?

In my class of 12, we had an Opthalmology resident, an Orthopedic resident and one General Surgery resident who switched over.

Wow... didn't know that Eyeballs switch to Rads too 😕 . Have you talked to the guy? Ophtho's a phat field... what were his reasons for switching? Just curious...

Hi Cuts,
I like your term Eyeballs. He thought Opthalmology was too boring, not enough variety. This guy passed the Rad Boards 98th percentile. The Orthopod was 99th. He went into Interventional Neuroradiology.

Whoa. I think that's one of the few gigs in medicine in which one can clear 1 mill/year... but I'm sure money had nothing to do with his decision 😉...

i'm currently an IM resident and would like to switch to radiology. i'm wondering how many people like me are out there.

Quite a few, as many who did not match into Radiology also applied to IM or other backup specialties. This should not discourage you to try if Rad is what you really want. Good luck.

Can you give some reasons why you are not happy with internal med? I am thinking about it but would like to hear from someone already in the field.

Thanks
