hi, I was wondering if you can ever take a break between finishing medical school and your residency. Thanks

The answer is yes.

I know people who have done postdoctoral bench research and then moved on to their residency a year or more later. Also, in some cases those on the millitary scholarships will be put into service after graduation. I know in the Navy it is possible to spend a year as a "general medical officer" on a ship. I think their duties are probably similar to that of a physicians assistant. It doesn't mean they have foregone residency. It just means they are doing something in between.
