currently i am in my gap year and taking informal postbac classes at my state university. this semester I could either take 3 high level biology classes or take those 3 plus one easy biology class, so if I get As in 4 classes my gpa would be in the next tenth level (3.40 instead of 3.39 etc)

but is it worth it? it is gonna be an obvious class on the transcript and I am not sure whether the extra money/time I am spending on that one class is worth the small increase in gpa. I am applying md now with two interviews already could that give a bad impression on the admission committee as I update them with spring classes?

At this point I think raising your GPA is futile. I am in the same situation where I have so many credits that even if I took 20 classes and got A's it wouldn't make THAT big of a difference.

The most important thing is to show that you can do well in the upper level courses. I would stick to the 3 courses and rock them and use the time that you would take the easy course to do volunteering or other endeavors you may have.

If you are applying next cycle, you can still take courses in the fall to supplement your application. So you could take 1-2 upper level science courses and get A's and then raise your GPA to that 3.4. It also shows that you clearly have the ability to handle the material in those courses.

Taking easy classes to just raise your GPA is too obvious at this point and will probably not help you. Just put yourself in an adcom's shoes.

This. As the amount of credits go up it is indeed futile to attempt to bring up your GPA significantly. Do well in upper division classes and do whatever ECs you may need to! Good luck!😀
