Hello, this is my first post, so bear with me. I'm currently an incoming freshman at a four year university. However, I have heard from many of my upperclassmen friends that the math department at my school is extremely hard (a meme was recently made about it. ha!). As per their advice, I plan on taking Calc 1 over the summer before my freshman year, beginning this June. My question to you is, is this a bad idea? I won't be taking it at a community college, but rather a 4 year university. I don't plan on doing this for any other credits, and my reason behind this is because I want the highest GPA possible, as I've heard that GPA along with an MCAT score is what medical schools really want. Thanks!🙂

Many, many premeds take one or more prereqs at other institutions. It's fine. Especially if you end up with a better grade.

I know people don't agree with this but taking it at another school and doing well (getting an A) is better than taking it at your current school and getting a bad grade. I wish I did the same (ended up with a W).

I doubt it would matter... I mean people transfer all the time during their academic careers, so I don't think it would matter that you took a class at another university. I took like half my pre-reqs at one university, then transferred to another university and took my other half there. I didn't plan it that way though.

it should be okay but keep in mind that you have to report every single grade without regard to the institution at which the courses were taken.

Thanks for all your responses. I just have one question, however. I called the registrar office, and she said that while we do accept transfer credit, the grade you get in the class will not be calculated in the schools GPA. She added that when you apply to medical school, they require all of your transcripts from the last of four years. Is this how it works at your institution?
