Would I be ill-advised?? What if i studied for them on my own...not all, but just Physics I, II, Organic Chem I, II and labs??

Basically Half the pre-reqs not taken....

Does taking these classes even HELP for test-taking?? It seems like alot of ppl's scores and gpa's don't correlate that well, anyhow. So, basically, If i practiced taking full-length MCAT tests for about 3-4 months and taught myself the physics, o-chem I need, do you all think I could do well?

Any advice would be appreciated....

I think you could, the format of the MCAT is such that if you understand the underlying concepts you should do fine.

You'll do fine... as long as you teach yourself the sciences since the MCAT isn't really your typical homework problem you'd get in a classroom anyway.

many people say that pre-reqs are enough for the mcat. but I dont think so, because there a lot of questions on biochem, physio, microbio and genetics that are not traditionally covered in General Bio. Also, organic chemistry I and II with lab is a must. You gonna have to memorize the reactions and concepts. So, I would advise you finish takin the pre-reqs and take a few advanced classes in biology.

Whoa there,
I took the MCAT without all my prereqs and without advanced biology classes and I got a score with which almost anyone would be satisfied. Those are definitely not required to do well, but of course they don't hurt either.

i believe you...it depends on 2 things:

1) how well General Biology was covered...my prof skipped a lot of stuff on general bio...so i needed the advanced classes

2) studying all the pre-reqs on your own when you prepare for the mcat...which I think applied to you. but again you have to be very smart in understanding all the mcat topics without taking the pre-req classes

For Example, having read through/worked through the Physics and Organic Chemistry Workbooks for Examkrackers, do you think that is sufficient information to "understand" the MCAT topics in these areas??

And, I mean, not just to do average on the MCAT (24-27), but to do above 30. I have great reading comprehension and speed, but the reason I'm asking all this, is because I want to take the August MCAT and apply at the same time (june-july) of this year. But I will not have taken these courses yet (physics, orgo with labs)....I will finish those during the application year, but I'm not sure if this is possible or not. ??

med schools want to see your grades in the pre-req courses...such as organic chemistry. In fact, orgo and biochem (if u took it) are the most important pre-reqs they look at.

So if you are going to apply this year without taking organic chemistry...u might be able to do well on the mcat...but it will hurt you when you apply.

PS: I was told that the ADCOMS go straight for the organic chemistry grades after they look at ur GPA.
