I want the MCAT to be valid for the application cycle in 2017 and hopefully I'll be admitting in the class entering Fall 2018. Would the 2014 January MCAT be valid or should I postpone it to May/June?

i think that is cutting it close.

some schools have a 2 year expiration on the mcat, no warranty

i think it is safest if you take the mcat the same year you are applying or 1 year prior, that way you could still use that score for another cycle just incase,

but not entirely sure so other feedback would be good

I agree that you might be cutting it close.

You might decide to take a gap year before you apply. Or you might not get in the first cycle you apply.
