I am officially in the class of 2016 now, not sure where. What is the general advise on tax filing status? So far, I have been a dependant on my parent's tax return and I am under my dad's health insurance. Will that hurt me with financial aid in med school? As an undergrad, I didnt even get work study. Since I have to do the FAFSA in a couple of months, it is time to think plan little early. If I become independent, I will lose the health/dental insurance coverage.

Ask at your school, but for me at most of the schools I applied to they wanted my parents info no matter what (dependent or not, 22 or 35 years old, etc). The rationale was basically you're all poor so we need some way to decide how to distribute limited resources. Most grad school isn't like this, but med schools seemed to be. It's school dependent though so you should pick a school then figure out their policy.
