Is anyone else struggling a lot with TBR Bio passages? I've done over half of the passages in both book1 and 2 and have scored on average around 63-67/100 for the passages after each chapter. It seems like TBR includes too much nonessential information and questions that assume you know very specific information..

Do your best, but I wouldnt worry about it too too much. TBR bio is really tough. Imo if ur getting 1-2 wrong a passage then you arent doing too bad, but that's what you should aim for at the least. I feel AAMC is much easier in most ways.

I can definitely relate to how demoralizing these passages can be. if you look up TBR Bio to AAMC correlation threads lots and lots of people who scored in the 60-70% range on TBR did just fine on the actual MCAT.

Don't sweat it, in my experience the passages weren't like the MCAT.

Do use the passages to identify your content weak areas.

You will probably end up with an 11+ in the actual test if your organic chem content is good. 65%+ in TBR bio is not great but not bad either...Aim for 70%+ if you gonna to do the other half.

TBR is nothing like AAMC

For phase 1 and 2 of TBR I averaged between 50-65%, Phase 3 I averaged 70% (not even high 70's, like literally 71%)

On my last 4 AAMC I have gotten 13,13,15,14 on the BS section, so don't worry about it!

Did you use TBR Bio for content review as well? Or just for passages? Did you find that that your other TBR scores (ie Physics, G.Chem, Ochem) translated that "nicely" over to the AAMC FLs? Sorry for so many questions...lol...just trying to get an idea of where I'm at...I start taking FLs in a couple days

Dang, congrats on those awesome scores! I hope it pays off for me as well

I did SN2 schedule, I performed fairly well on TBR for all topics except bio. I'd say my media for chemistry was 13-14, physics was 12-14, o-chem was 11-12 with a few 13's and 14's.

Once I started taking FL's I was mostly scoring in the 11-12 range because I made a lot of careless mistakes and didn't know how to fix that.

My scores for AAMC 3,4,5,7 were 33,35,33,27 (new verbal strategy here). I decided to postpone and I took all the TBR and GS tests (15), went back to AAMC and got 32,37,37,38. I pretty much have fixed making careless mistakes so I recommend doing as many FL's as possible. I took 21

Tbr kicked my butt and im thankful. I ended up with a 13 on real mcat and even scored a 15 and a couple 14s on the aamcs. I definitely scored 65-75 sometimes when doing the bio passages. It was demoralizing and I felt like quitting, but in the end up thankful. Keep going and just have a good outlook; it'll be okay

anybody getting rocked on some passages(1/5 or 2/7) and then do fine on other passages(5/7 or 6/7). there is no in between

Definitely, mcatdestroyer. There are some passages where I get a perfect score and then the random passage where I get 1/6 correct. Very frustrating but at least we know where we need to put in the time and effort.

So glad to know its not just me! I will get all right on half the passages and then 3/7 and even a 1/7. I wanted to throw the book! Nothing between. Will start taking FLs next week so will see if the apparent translation to a high score happens for me. Good luck all!

I used TBR for my content review

I felt demoralized the whole time because I was getting 50-70% correct only on all sections

Then I took a AAMC full length. It's way easier than TBR so don't worry.

Hate to bring up this old topic but I am currently doing the end of chapter passages for TBR Bio and uggh, its making me feel dumb. On average I'm getting a 60-65% on passages. 🙁 But glad to know that it will be a great help for the actual MCAT

Are you using TBR for the content review, too?
I decided to use it for both and it has been going far better than I had been prepared for given SDN's general consensus on TBR Bio (I'm at 81% avg for Bio)...I think if you have the time to put in for TBR's content review, it's easier to get more out of the passages.

Berkeley Review is designed to TEACH, NOT to estimate your score! Don't worry about missing questions. Focus on learning. If you already knew everything, you probably wouldn't have bought TBR to begin with.

(PS - I've already done every passage and question in TBR Biology books.)
