I know that C is correct, but A is also correct because in the passage it says that "The oxidized derivative of Compound A turned the blue litmus paper red immediately"


Thus, it can only be a primary alcohol...

Isn't the oxidized derivative of compound A a carboxylic acid and that's why it turns the paper from blue (basic) to red (acidic)?
 
But the compound A itself is thus a primary alcohol because only primary alcohol can form the CA

You are correct that it is most likely a primary alcohol, but that doesn't make choice A incorrect. It uses the word "or" so it is either a primary OR secondary. As much as it is cliche to say, it is always about picking the "most correct" answer, but I believe your thinking is correct. Good question.

It also states "based off table 1", but I think that is too much of a stretch.
