First of all, I would like to say, I have a deep passion for the Spanish language. I've taken 5 years of the language pre-college. But now that college has opened more opportunities, I find learning the Arabic language personally enriching and what I need to do to keep myself intact with my Middle Eastern roots. I am almost 100% sure I will minor in Arabic.
Spanish isn't too difficult to me just because I've been trained over the years to know it. I placed into a second semester junior level of the course at my university and I am a freshman. I know it pretty well, and there are no more Spanish grammar courses offered beyond what I placed into, rather than literature, translation, and business Spanish. So my question is, when it comes time to apply for medical schools, if I have been able to stick with the Spanish (reading, travelling, personal instruction), how would I be able to use it.
Keep in mind, to receive a minor at my university, you need 12 upper level course credits and you have it. I already have 3 from my placement, so I only need three classes to go. What the hell should I do? If I decide to pursue a minor in Spanish as well as Arabic, I will have a tight schedule and need to start my Spanish this summer, the summer I plan on taking organic chemistry. As I said, I found the language easy, but does anyone know if I (generally speaking) can handle both the rigorous science and the upper level language at the same time?
I really love both languages, and I am conflicted. GRRR. Help please with whatever you can offer.
BTW, I am a Chemistry major because I love it, if that has any bearing on your opinion.
