The MD/PhD program at the Technion does not officially exist. There is one student who is currently fulfilling the MD/PhD here. It was not organized, they waited until the end of his second year to evaluate him. To his credit, he has very high marks, and is a good student, works hard.

But, there was never any formal program, he had made it clear he was interested in it. when it was time for the school to put it together they were clueless as to how they would get him a stipend, as he is not Israeli, or how they would even handle his loans, and other matters. In the end, it seems to have worked out, at least for now.

But in this program, things have a tendency to boil over at the last minute leading to erratic and hasty decisions on the part of the admins that sometimes help and sometimes hurt the students.

if you are interested in MD.PhD and can not get into an MSTP program in the states then yeah you have a shot at it here. But, you will need above an 85 average. Most students do not even come close to that. Plus, there is no guarantee they will facilitate you as an MD/PhD student once you arrive. Furthermore, this MD/PhD program is not funded by the NIH- they expect you to pay in full your MD degree, meaning cough up 100,000 bucks for the MD and then youll get the PhD for free with stiped. The stipend is on the Israeli pay scale, so you get a fraction of what you would earn as a PhD student in America (living expenses are not so cheap here ~fyi)
