I got an interview with Johns Hopkins, and I'm pretty excited since its my first postbac interview, so I was hoping any current postbacs at Hopkins could tell me their impressions of the school, criticisms, advice for the interview, etc. Advice from people who underwent interviews at other schools would be appreciated too! Thanks!

There doesn't seem to be a lot of Hopkins folks around the boards. I would suggest emailing them and asking if you could discuss the program with a student when you come. It doesn't help for interview prep, but shows interest in the program.

They actually have you meet up with a current student after your interview, so that part is probably covered. I just haven't read much about Hopkins on these boards and was wondering why. Any info would be appreciated!

I'm a senior Hopkins undergrad. I wrote a really long, thoughtful reply to your question, but I think because I took so long to write it, I was logged out and it was deleted. However, if you contact me I'd be more than happy to share with you what it's like here, and answer any and all of the questions you may have.

I'm currently in the Hopkins postbac program and have generally very good things to say about it. For a little background, I came straight out of undergrad, took chemistry last summer, have been taking lots of other classes this year, plan to take the mcats this summer, and can start applying to med schools in the fall. (there is a chance I will wait a year before applying, but it's for personal reasons unrelated to the Hopkins program.) Overall, I would recommend the program, especially if you are interested in taking advantage of some of the other opportunities of a big research school like JHU. A number of students in the program currently are taking classes at the school of public health, and (as I'm sure you heard when you interviewed) the administrators of the program really encourage us to all find activities (research or otherwise) to complement our coursework. My one disappointment has been some of the large lectures, but I think they are about on par for any undergraduate program at a large research-focused university (ie many profs are here for the research, not because they like, or are good at, teaching). The best parts of the program, for me, have been the other opportunities at Hopkins (I've taken three public health classes and have been doing lab research) and the community of other students, which is pretty outstanding.

I hope that helps answer some questions. Feel free to let me know if there's anything in particular you want to know!

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether its normal to wait two weeks for a response after my interview? I'm thinking that doesn't bode too well for my chances, but I thought the interview went really well and I'm really interested in Hopkins. Their app deadline just passed, so it could be they wanted to know how many people would wind up applying before filling up the class with the last few people, but maybe this is just me trying to make up reasons other than having been rejected for not having heard...

They took 5 weeks to get back to me after my interview, so don't worry about it.

Wow, that is really good news- I had already started preparing myself for the worst. Thanks!

hey guys, i'm and undergrad looking at post-bac programs for next year. I'm wondering if you would mind sharing with me your background or the avg gpa's sats or admitted students in the hopkins program so that I can gauge where I stand. Thanks so much.

Hi futuremd!

I'm immensely interested in applying to JH postbac's program for 2008. Would it be extremely rude if I asked information about your academic background (gpa, sat/gre score, school, volunteer work, etc.)? I'm trying to get a feel for what kind of students JH interested in.

Your response would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much!!
