Psyched for opportunities but looking for some direction. I still have my Temple interview coming up I just want to see what people think.

Temple
Pros
  • --Proximity to home (NJ resident) drivable vs a plane ride. Family would be a significant asset in school. Plus my dog..
  • --Tuition even OOS is Significantly cheaper. ~40k a year less

Cons
  • --Not the nicest area

University of Colorado
Pros
  • --Colorado is so cool. (great for my mental health) plus opportunities to ski/hike/bike
  • --Research/mentorship relationship with one doc from the campus so I would have an in to have some good opportunities.

Neutral
  • --Recent curriculum upgrades to put more clinical work before step 1. we will see how that changes things.

Cons
  • --Expensive af 95k OOS
  • --Far from home

This is biased because I haven't even interviewed yet at Temple. However, both seem like amazing schools. Exceptional clinical opportunities, pass/fail curriculums, ability to do great research, SW33T volunteering options. Thinking now that I would like some sort of surg or peds specialty. I know Colorado has great peds but Temple has great Trauma and surgery. Just wondering if anyone out there knows something I don't that could be useful in making this decision. Thanks a lot.

I mean there’s no guarantee you’ll get into temple... but if you do the cost alone is a very good reason to go there over Colorado.

Thanks yeah I'm totally jumping the gun and that will eventually karma my butt to getting rejected lol. But i also appreciate the clarity from the financial comment. I just need like a little cross sectional perspective to help me get my mind all settled.

Ditto to cost being a huge factor but CUSOM has great clinical sites for trauma and surgery too - University ER in Denver is a Level 1 Trauma Center and so is Memorial Central ER in Colorado Springs. I’ve also heard of some really great surgeons from prestigious schools at CUSOM too (one ENT/neuro I believe is one of the only 3 surgeons that do certain inner ear surgeries that involve the skull). Even though they put Step 1 off, they say it’s because it improves scores so might be more of a plus.

Just my 2 cents but I’m biased bc I’m IS and going to CUSOM. Either way, I’m sure your interview day at Temple will give you a better feel for which fits you most. Good luck!

Ah thank you very much. Yeah if I was IS probably would be a no brainer. But I will have to wait and see.
