Temple vs. USF Med?!?!

Hey all...

I'm trying to decide between Temple or USF Med? Not really sure exactly how to go about this because right now I'm going to USF and need to tell Temple by next thursday. I did hear something about Temple being on probabtion, etc...so if anyone's got any suggestions at all, just throw 'em my way. Thanks for your help!!

why would you pay out of state tuition for temple? the choice is easy, go to USF

Temple, for sure! Okay, I may be biased because I am on the USF waitlist and would like you to drop your spot so that you can get the waitlist moving closer to me.

Seriously, if I had your options, I would probalby go with USF...I lived in the Philly area for many years and I didn't love it...plus, my impression was that Temple did not fare as well as the other area med schools - Penn and Jefferson - in terms of reputation. I'm not saying Temple is a bad school, but that it is a decent medical school that has had some bad press recently. Unless the location of Philly (and very crappy part of Philly) or some special program at Temple appeals to you in a way that USF can't...I would go to USF. But, again, it's good to have choices!

Temple was on a 12-month probation some years back (2003) because of substandard facilities (nothing to do with the curriculum). They are no longer on probation and are building the new build school now and have been recruiting new faculty. They still have one of the best clinical reputations around. It scared me when I first the word 'probation', but I think they are doing well now. I'll be there in the fall. 🙂
