I got an interview invite yesterday from UT Memphis. While I've already been admitted to my top choice, UT is attractive due to its access to St. Jude's. It's also only a couple hours away by car, so it wouldn't be an expensive interview trip.

My main question, though, is whether anyone knows how many spots are left in their class? Even a short drive isn't worth it if I'm vying for a waitlist spot.

Thanks,

CQ

You have nothing to lose. You should go to the interview. You might like UT better than you thought. The interview is a chance for them to impress YOU as well. They wouldn't be interveiwing still if all their spots were full. Go for it. It will be no pressure on you because you are already accepted somewhere, and you'll be relaxed enough to blow them away 👍

I'm sure that there are still some spots left if they are inviting you for an interview. I would highly recommend checking it out. It is such an amazing program! Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.

Im not going to weigh in on your chances. but if you already have your acceptance at your top choice school I wouldnt just go for the possibility of ST Judes.

Med students do very little in the way of rotations there. Unless things have changed since I graduated. We had a few days in outpt peds there and the ability to do an elective there in 4th year. That was it.

I guess you could always get involved in a research there. But UT really isnt a research Mecca.

Where is your top choice? out of curiosity

^^^The one in my signature.

To the other posters: it is not true at all that they must have spots left if they invited me. I know of a number of schools that continue to interview after the class is full, just so they have a nice pool of waitlist candidates to consider.

Hmmm... this will require thought. They wanted me to interview next week though, so I will most likely decline.

CQ-

I think UT is notorious for being really slow in their admissions process. I would bet that their class isn't full yet by any means. Go for it! You might as well check it out. You can stay at the medical fraternity house for free (chi phi ?) or at the marriott downtown for pretty cheap (with UT discount).

Thanks to all for the responses, but I did decline the interview. I thought a long time about it, and even if it came in a little less expensive than UNC with financial aid (unlikely given my family's financial situation), I couldn't see myself attending.

Best of luck to other UT applicants!
