I'm curious about Texas residents who have been accepted to OOS medical schools. My hypothesis is that Texas residents will overwhelmingly choose to go in-state because of:

1 - the number and variety of high-quality medical schools,
2 - the unusually low cost of attendance, and
3 - the strong in-state preference leading to higher acceptance rates.

Part two of my hypothesis is that the Texas residents who decide to go elsewhere fall into a few very specific categories:

1 - very high-stat applicants who get into Top 10 programs or other good programs with significant financial aid, or
2 - applicants to MD/PhD or MSTP programs, or
3 - low-stat applicants who go DO or International because they weren't accepted in state.

If you're a Texan who decided to go OOS, did you fall into one of these categories? Or not? And would you mind sharing your general stats and reasons?

The implications are for OOS applications - What schools to apply to? What types of Texas students should apply where (or not)?
