Hi, I am a native Texan but went to med school on East coast but am considering coming back to Texas for family reasons for residency in IM. I will be applying this cycle and had a few questions epecially about Baylor-Houston and UTSW. I always heard both programs had reps of having more scut than most IM programs and the workload in general is fairly high compared to other programs. Is this true, or has it changed? Other questions include

1. What is the support system like? Do they toss you in and its either sink or swim?

2. Is there adequate teaching? What percentage of residents pass the boards?

3. Do they histories of firing residents? ( I ask because they seem like such large programs, maybe they get lots of labor and then get rid of some each year)

4. Is there adequate time for research?

5. Do they comply with 80 hr wk requirements?

Thanks in advance, I would like to come back to Texas, especially either Houston or Dallas, but am wary based on what I have heard and the reviews on scutwork.com.
