I hope I'm in the 'under' club.. b/c if 7/30 was when they started... 4 weeks from that is hell. 😡

Don't sweat it!

What you can do in the meantime, if you haven't already, is have all of your secondaries completed AND sent/processed (snail mail for a couple of them) by the schools before your TMDSAS is processed. This will ensure your application file is "complete" at the schools as soon as possible.

Hey Evo, have you been processed yet? I'm in the same boat as you, all materials in 7/10/04. I noticed you transmitted yours on 7/6/04, so 8/3/04 (this past Tuesday) was your 4 week mark 🙁.

Saturday was my 4 week mark 🙁.
Yeah, well, there was a problem with my MCAT scores. When the scores were released back in June, I released them to TMDSAS.

However, I didn't notice that there was a problem (i.e. that TMDSAS had never received the scores) until the 20th of July. So that may be why it's taking so long.

However, and I cannot stress this enough: We are all VERY early in the process. If you get interviews in Sept/October, you're still WAY early in the game. Believe me. Remember that the TX schools are NON-Rolling, so there's still plenty of time. I interviewed with ppl last year who interviewed in December and still got in. So no worries.

Are you sure the MCAT scores pushed your processing date back? I decided to add on more schools and they said it would NOT affect the processing date. Luckily, we will get transmitted this coming Wednesday or Thursday.

Well, you may be right then. Perhaps this is our week. Good luck!

Thanks to all for your input, much obliged. 👍 I'm going to try to get my app submitted tonight, and hopefully these profs will contact me by this week. Does anyone know of folks who submitted in August of previous application years? How badly did it affect their attempt to gain admission to texas med schools? See ya

Good luck to August MCATers!

Good luck to soon-to-be interviewees!

Rub the rabbit's foot for those trying to get processed and sent to schools this week! 😉

And happy Monday. How was everyone's weekend? Mine was cool: had a date, put myself MUCH closer to finishing my Master's thesis. You?

Ditto on the good luck to everyone! My weekend was good...I got to spend a lot of time with my fiance. His dad was put in the hospital yesterday, which was kind of stressful but I think everything will turn out OK. My mom and I are tearing out the tile in her bathroom, so my hands look terrible with blisters and such. So much for the professional polished look for my interview on Thursday! Glad you had a great weekend too!

Ok so I'm sure you guys will think I'm an idiot for not getting this, but I'm really having trouble figuring out exactly what UTSW is wanting on the first essay-type question. I mean I understand the question, I'm just not sure exactly how they want their answers and what they're looking for. I don't have any experience in the medical field thus far, so I don't know what experiences I can list as being related to and supportive of my interest in primary care... And the fact that they want a list instead of paragraphs makes it worse... Any advice/help would be much appreciated... This is my last secondary... I finished all of the others a few weeks ago, but for some reason I'm stuck on this one...

Thanks!

Hey Emily:

I guess that they're trying to have you show them that you're not just putting down Primary care b/c you think it'll get you in. YOu know?

If you know that you REALLY want to do PC, but don't have any shadowing experiences, why not put down other experiences that you DO have: visits to your PCP's office, experience as a child, etc.

Does this help?

Yes, thanks, that does help some... But how exactly do I go about putting those into a bulleted list? Ya know? It seems like it'd be easier to make it into paragraphs with sentences... I feel like it will be strange to have a list...
Here's what I imagine the list being like, just for an example: (this is not stuff I've done)
*went to the doctor as a child
*shadowed a PCP for 6 weeks

Is that what they're actually wanting? It just seems so weird to me...

Emily 😕

For a bulleted list, type your document in Microsoft Word and then cut and paste into the UTSW essay. If I were you, I would list as many healthcare experiences as possible. Since most doctors are primary care physicians, I would say that most volunteer/shadowing experience could be listed in the essay. I think it's better to list more....just make sure that your experiences are valid and that you can explain/describe them.

Hope that helps and good luck :luck:

Did you look at the 2nd question?

I made my bulleted list for the 1st question, and then explained and related them to the 2nd question (as evidence and backup for what I envision myself doing)

Does that help? 😀

Thanks for your help, guys! Part of my problem is that I don't have any healthcare related experience (I know, this is really bad)... I have reasons why, but that doesn't really help for this question... Do you think I can relate just regular life experiences to my desire to go into primary care? Cuz that's pretty much what it's based on. I have had lots of work experience, but none that was health care related...

Thanks again!

Do UTH or TAMUu offer housing with med students for the night of the interview? If so does anyone know how to get it?

My interview letter for A&M did not mention anything about staying with a medical student.

I just wanted to know if anyone processed on or around 8/4/2004 has received an interview invite yet. Thanks a lot!

Damn my UTH interview is the 27th. Thanks

Wish me luck on TCOM interview tomorrow morning.....

Emily-

I am in the same boat as you when it comes to healthcare experience. But, use your work and life experiences to your advantage. They ask for a bulleted list (on which you can have a sentence or two per bullet to explain). You have your reasons why you want to be primary care and put those down. Chances are that if they aren't the standard volunteer/shadow/"I'm doing this because I have to to get into medschool", they will stick out to the reviewer. Once you are at the interview, you may get the chance to explain/expand on it...shine, if you will.

That's what I think at least. I'm a non-trad, so much of my motivation is a function of the non-clinical experiences I have had in and since college..and so far in the application process, the resposes from schools has been positive. Now, let's just hope I get and offer for admission 😉

Good luck to all with interviews this week.

Hi everyone,

I was wondering how important is it to have the secondaries submitted right after your main application is in. I submitted my TMDSAS in a little more than a week ago but I'm having trouble with some of the secondaries plus work. Will I be alright if I submit within two weeks of my main TMDSAS? Thanks for your help.

2 weeks will be fine b/c it will probably take 4 weeks for TMDSAS to process your primary and send it out to schools.

Thanks, runner! That makes me feel a little better... I guess I was just worried about how the question is worded exactly... The whole "related to" section was worrying me because my experiences aren't necessarily related to primary care, even though they are my reasons for wanting to enter into it... Anyhow, thanks again! Now I just have to get it finished and submitted, and I'll be waiting for TMDSAS and AMCAS...

IfailedMcat,
Don't worry, people ask me what Ylime stands for all the time... Usually they think is has to do with limes... 🙂

I got UT-Southwestern invite as well.....WHOOP!!!! (Thought it was time for a little Aggie representation on this board--seems like there are a lot of Longhorns....) 😀

Congrats on the invites, guys! I'm still waiting to be processed... Now I'm wishing I would have submitted earlier... I want to have interviews, too!

Emily

Congrats on the UTSW invites. When did you guys submit your secondaries?

I got one too for 9/18. I'm out of state as well, so I'm excited. I want to move it around thanksgiving so we can visit some family, but we'll see.

I submitted mine on 8/2.

I got the UTSW invite on 9/11. I don't really like the idea of having to drive from Galveston to Dallas on Friday night, but whatever.

To all those that have had their TCOM interview, Are you sending thank you letters or cards to the interviewers? what are your thoughts? Does it make a difference?

UT SW on 9/11!!! This school is a keeper (I hope!)

I will be making the drive from H-town to Dallas that friday night too.

...at least it's not on 10/9.

I have plans to be at a little football game that day. (I hope it is one)

I got a dallas invite for 9/18. Is there any advantage with the Texas system to do the interview early? It seems like, with the match, it doesn't matter when you interview. Any input? Thanks!!!

Did anyone enclose a self-addressed stamped postcard with their UT San Antonio secondary? If so, has anyone gotten theirs back to confirm receipt of the secondary? I sent mine a few weeks ago and I haven't gotten it in the mail...

Yeah, I did, but I don't remember how long it took for them to get it back to me. Sorry!

Does anyone know a good source to research current issues facing medicine today for interviews?

I dunno if it makes a difference. I am going to send letters because I'm too lazy to buy a thank you card lol

Relaxing interviews, eh?
