Anyone know if and to what extent the Texas schools hand out merit scholarships (Baylor included)?
I am interested in this also
I can tell you Baylor does. A guy I know (non-URM, out of state) was given a full ride there, and another girl (Texan non-URM) had a scholarship which covered her entire tuition but not fees.
I have heard Baylor is good with scholarship money.
During the UTSW presentation, Dr. Wright was saying that they give out a good deal of scholarship money. He said that they don't make offers until after the match though.
It seems like a big scholarship would be pretty hard to get, especially if you only apply in-state. Correct me if I'm wrong, but dont the schools pretty much know where you applied? If they know you only applied in-state, then they know you only match to one school and don't really have options. What incentive do they have to offer you a scholarship? They would just be bidding against themselves.
Sure...As an MS1 at UT-H, I received:
$2500 merit-based scholarship (a good number of these were handed out)
$1500 merit-based scholarship (10-15 of these were awarded per class)
$2500 TPEG (Texas Public Education Grant) - most everyone receives this
For the merit-based scholarships, I was not asked to write an essay or submit information, so I assume it was based on undergrad GPA and activities.
In your financial aid package, you may also receive some loans with significantly lowered interest rates.
I received $13k in scholarships/grants, which consisted of a $7k per year scholarship I didn't apply for (10% class gets it from committee) and some other funds, Texas grant, etc.
