Hi!
I've been trying to reach an admissions advisor at the new dental school at Texas Tech. Does anyone have an advisor or a good email I can reach them at?

Thank you!

So they should start sending out invites toward the end of this month at the latest!

For those that have received interviews, have you chosen virtual or in person?
I'm choosing to do virtual. I'd really like to see the area/school, but flights, lodging, safety, and taking off work make it tough to do. Y'all who interview in person should update the rest of us once y'all visit!

Congrats! Looks like you'll get to check out Chico's Tacos yourself ;) I guess a benefit of interviewing in person is that you have earlier dates available. I have to wait until October 30th for my virtual interview.

I can't deny trying these tacos were a factor in making the decision to stay an extra night in elpaso lol.

So is it just me, or does Tech's interview process seem pretty intense? One hour and 45 minutes of multiple mini interviews, followed by 2.5 hours of traditional interviews... Yikes!

It's not like that at all. They split you into groups, and as one group does the MMI, the other goes on a school tour. For the traditional interviews, there are breaks / downtime in between your two interviews.

Whew, that's a relief. Thanks for the clarification! I was definitely confused by the itinerary on the application portal.

Hi, does anyone who has interviewed have any tips or advice to give? :) And how was the MMI portion? I’m not sure what to expect!

You have to be able to relax and have a conversation. You get two minutes to read/think about the MMI prompt, and 6 mins to answer. If you answer with some time left, you can ask for a follow up question. Just go over some different ethical scenarios so you can be prepared for the MMI. Contrary to the name "Multiple Mini Interviews," there's only one MMI question.

Later you'll interview with 2 volunteer dentists who practice in El Paso. Just know yourself and your application, and practice just holding a conversation with people. Don't get too bogged down in the hundreds of questions that you can memorize answers for. Just focus on "tell me about yourself," "why dentistry," and "why this school?" Other than that, do some reflection and try to understand exactly why you want to be a dentist and what makes you YOU and be prepared to speak about that.

Like someone said above, 2 mins to read/prepare and 6 mins to respond. I took the whole 6 minutes so I was never asked a follow up question. It's just one MMI and is administered by a faculty member who times your answer. Honestly, the 8 minutes passed very quickly and it was very low stress, just know basic ethics and you should be fine.

Since it's a new school and new interview format, there weren't really any resources or students to ask, but the day before I watched MMI example videos on youtube which kind of helped

Hi everyone, I'm an OOS applicant and I was just wondering - will schools in TX send out acceptances on December 1st this year? Or has it been moved to December 15th like all the other schools?

First day to send acceptances for all texas schools is the 15th. I believe this is country-wide as well!

Traditional interviews lasted around 20-30 mins. The interview day was super long with breaks in between from 9AM-5PM for me

Has anyone that submitted the application in October heard back yet?

Question- has anyone seen the addendum on TMDSAS that states that after May 2020, students who have been accepted to one school will not be allowed to be accepted by additional schools? AND you have two weeks (typically) to decide on a school. Anyone know anything more about this?

I don't think it's true for students to be only accepted to one texas school? Last year when I applied, I was told that texas schools don't share this kind of information with one or another.

From what I got out of that page, you are able to receive more than one acceptance up until May 1. However, on May 1, if you already have an acceptance elsewhere, another TX schools can't offer an acceptance.

Oh I see what you are saying! Do you think they just haven't updated it to say "May 2021" for this cycle?
