Hi, I am new to SDN and I would like to ask if you are a texas and you apply to state school what are you chances, I know that Cal schools are hard to get in too even for in state people, what is you input on texas in state people? Thanks for the feedback

By law the texas state schools must accept at least 90% in state residents. That leaves tons of open seats availble. Texas is nothing like California. IN fact most will say that if you live in Texas you have the best chance of getting into med school. But you also need the grades and MCAT scores as well.

If there's one state to be in for the medical school application process, Texas is it. 😀 While it is certainly not "easy" to get into any medical school, statistically, your chances are better in Texas than in California. Well, your chances are better *anywhere* other than California.

However, with the texas match system, it's important you are informed of all the nuances of the system or you could very easily get screwed over. But there is still no easy texas medical school to get an acceptance to, as many of the Texas schools have become particularly lucrative schools to get an acceptance to, even for out-of-staters. You will ceratinly receive an excellent education from all the Texas schools though. They are all great. Good luck. 🙂

PS: Try the "search" function for this question because I think I remember an in-depth discussion about this topic recently.

Hassan--
Texas schools are not easy to get into but this state has a lot of public medical schools with large entering classes (200 per UT school and 60+ at TAMU and 120 at Tech, which will rise to 200 in a few years). Also, the number of TX residents applying is much lower than say NY or CA (2000 to 2500). Hence, if you are a TX resident, your chances of admission, on average, are better than many other states.

Pay close attention to how the match system works, as Praying4MD has stated above.

Another reason our system is so great is the low tuition--TX schools are charging literally one third of what private med schools in PA and NY charge. Quite astounding.
