Does anyone know if there is a link between thank you notes/emails etc. and acceptance rate at certain/all programs?

Did anyone recieve a thank you note, only to be rejected later?? etc. etc.

What up?

Wow, you sound almost as neurotic as I am. Thank you notes sent by schools generally tend to be pretty standard; so I wouldn't read too much into it. That being said, receiving a thank you letter can't be a BAD sign.

Um....yeah...as time ticks on, my neurosis grows. Usually I'm not so bad, mindset was, get into ANY med school, then after some BLAH interviews I had to go fall in LOVE with one school. Next heard that someone received a thank you note from them while I didn't!! Aaaargh! Never thought I'd really really really like one school so much. Otherwise I wouldn't care! :scared:

Don't sweat it. I don't think that they mean anything whatsoever. Some schools send them en masse, others it may depend on whether or not a particular interviewer had the time to sign 'em or whatever. It doesn't mean anything; your thank you letter might be in the mail.

I know how you feel about falling in love with a school, happened to me too. Don't worry, it all works out in the end.

One of my interviewers told me not to send him a thank you card because he said he receives a ton of them and he doesn't read them because they all say the same thing. BAHAHA

I've been told this a number of times as well...not necessarily for the reasons stated, but because the one of the adcom members tell all the applicants bluntly that decisions on our file will be made after the last interview. They basically say "dont send a thank you card....it wont help or hurt your application because of X, Y, Z. Unless you had a personal and deep connection with your interviewer...dont send one."

I have yet to send one.

And i doubt there is a link

Whoops. Think I wasn't specific enough in my title... was wondering if there was any significance to thank you notes received by applicants from interviewers or admissions offices .

I have recieved mass email thank you's and I don't think those mean much. I also interviewed at places and afterwards I did not recieve a thank you note, while other interviewees did. 🙁

I got one about a week after interviewing at UTSW....but i also think everyone else interviewing there did. I dont know if there is a correlation...i'm assuming if they would send you something at all it regard some news about your application (you're in, waitlist, rejected, etc.). Never heard of this before though.

I had five interviews up to this point, and sent out 4 thank you cards only to receive 1 acceptance. Funny thing is, I got accepted to the 1 school I didn't send a thank you card to. Go figure. It def has no bearing on whether or not you get in.

Some schools will send everyone a thank you card. Be sure to check with other applicants to see if all interviewees get cards. Also, look at the wording. Is it generic, or does it mention specific items brought up during your interview? Was it digitally signed by the dean of admissions, or did an interviewer or dean take time to sign the note by hand? Finally, does your brain ever take a break, or are you going to stress over this topic until you get a thick envelope in the mail?
