Thought we should get this thread started!

My name is Jon and I'm a re-taker from May 10th. Was really hoping for a 30+ but ended up with a 29P. PS 12 VR 07 BS 10 . One point on verbal is what is making me retake!!! Good luck to everyone, and lets hope the AAMC gods will be in our favor on test day....bc my May 10th test was hard as hell. :D

that this extra time means an AWESOME curve...cross your fingers knock on wood wear your pjs inside out..ahhh

For those of us who want to post our scores, how should we do it? I have seen in the past the following format, which seems to work well:

Average Practice Test
PS
VR
BS
WS

Predicted Score
PS
VR
BS
WS

Actual Score
PS
VR
BS
WS

That format seems to be the most helpful for others looking at our scores.

That's a good format, for sure. If people add in an old MCAT too, if they have it, it would also be helpful. I think I'm gonna kill some waiting time by filling that all out now so my score later doesn't color my predictions (eg: "oh yeah I knew I was gonna get that!!")

This is just aggravating... I am TAing a lab and checking while they centrifuge. I think they make us wait until we know longer care what score we receive... only that we receive the score at all.

I like the format because I know when I looked at other people's scores in that format it was the most helpful for me. As for the prediction, I made my prediction a little less than a week after the MCAT. That way my stress from taking had gone away, but memory of it was still fresh. I put it in my MDapps so I wouldn't forget it.

Still no scores as of 1:25 EST, damn! I set a meeting with my premed advisor today specifically because I figured I would have my scores. Oh well, I guess I can just talk about college football scores instead.

26Q. Looks like it's Carrib or DO time for some of us. I don't think I want to write this exam a third time. ALL I studied was Phys and Bio and they stayed exactly the same!! Verbal went up 2 points and I did not do ONE verbal passage. What a b!tch this process is.

Why are you asking this question if you're not taking this exam any more?

Your score is too imbalanced. Med schools generally look for "no section below 8". Although your composite may get you interviews, the imbalance may raise a red flag.

Well if I actually follow the format:

Average Practice:
P - 13

B - 12

Expected Results:

P - 11
V - 11
B - 12

Actual Results:
P - 14
V - 12
B - 10

So my 36T is a little unbalanced, but I'm hoping the composite is high enough to make them disregard that. What do you think?

I have been through the ringer with this damn test (as everyone has).

First time taking: May 25, 2007 23M
Second time taking: May 10, 2008 26M
Third time taking: Aug 5, 2008 30Q

I have to say...I think that some of this test is luck. Yes, I studied my freaking ass off between May 2007 and August 2008, but I got an absolutely awful test on May 10th. Tested all my weak areas. The Aug 5 tested all my strong areas. You CAN beat this test if you put your mind to it. Just because you get a first or second score in the low 20's does NOT mean you can't improve a good 7-10 points!!!

I know if I had a different Bio section I would have scored higher, but I had a whole passage I was totally lost on. That is just an after thought, not a regret or anything. I am super freaking happy! Seems like there have been a lot of 36's for us.

For those who didn't do well, please don't despair. It takes only a handful of questions separating a bad score from a good score.

Best of Luck

So my 36T is a little unbalanced, but I'm hoping the composite is high enough to make them disregard that. What do you think?

I would definitely retake. From what I hear if there is a four point difference between any of your MCAT sections your application is automatically disqualified.

I don't know why and its really freaking frustrating but I took the august 5th exam and I still havent gotten my score back. I have literally been sitting all day refreshing my computer and nothing. does anyone else have the same problem out there? and how can i get my scores?:confused::confused::confused:

True that. As in it's better to get a 12/12/12 than an 11/14/15.

Right, that 15 is extremely deceiving. An adcom would really question why you got a 15 in one section and 11 in another. To them it shows a complete lack of both consistency and dedication to the medical field. If I got a score like that I would probably take a few months, get my life together, and decide if medicine was really for me. If I somehow convinced myself to carry on, I would study hard to make sure my next MCAT was more balanced.

Hope that helps!

Come on. He is above the 90th percentile and he should "decide if medicine is really for him?" Then someone who gets a 23 composite should as well give up on life.

Retaking might be a little harsh, I think. Like I said, I would rather have had a smoother breakdown, but I think the composite is high enough that it won't make much of a difference. Most of the schools I'm applying to have an average MCAT of around 32/33, so I think I'm alright.

Um, I'm pretty sure MDean86 is being quite sarcastic, but maybe that's just me...

Nonsense. Can't you see how serious and earnest he is trying to be? You are insulting his integrity by making such baseless accusations.

Globizen: You should retake it until you get a 15/15/15/Z

Congrats, but don't be insensitive to people who might not have done as well as they wanted. You probably didn't intend to

MDean is a gator. By definition he is not sarcastic, only truthful. Because gators aren't sarcastic. They just attack. Destroy other teams along with their dreams. Never accuse gators of sarcasm. They are just inherently all-knowing and powerful.

I'm on board as well. I just got 14/10/10 and I've been studying since the moment I got the scores back.

From what I hear from my uncle, who is the Dean of Admissions at every medical school in the country, if PS divided by BS is greater than 1.1 or less than 0.9, the computer automatically rejects the application. Never even gets read.
