This question has been looming over my head ever since I got the August MCAT back...28P (9,9,10). Should I retake the MCAT in April????

A little about myself: I recently transferred into Cornell as a junior Human Development major and banged out a 4.21 GPA (while taking biochem w/17 credits) for the Fall. I came in with a 3.83 from Hofstra University and a 3.98 science GPA. I have plenty of leadership, extracurr's, and volunteering experience, especially at MSKCC and Cornell Weill. My dream school is Cornell Weil. So should I work on my connections and pray that adcom overlooks the MCAT a bit or take the MCAT over and risk: a drop in GPA this Spring semester, taking time away from extracurr's, and a lower score??

Thank you so much for the help you guys, I definitely need it at this point in my career.

How did you get a 4.21 GPA? I suggest you only take the April MCAT if you haven't been accepted anywhere by April.

Best Wishes!

Angel

P.S. are you a little troll?

Cornell gives out A+'s. Maybe I did not make this clear, but I will only be applying in June for the first time.

Didn't know Cornell was THAT easy. But it's an ivy league, right? Pfft.

28 is pretty close... I'd retake it just to be on the safe side.

Ooo that's cool -- good job!

I don't know much about Cornell, but I would consider making a consultation appointment to speak with someone on their admissions board. If they tell you to take the MCAT again, or strongly suggest it by mentioning what their 'average MCAT matriculant score' is, I would retake.

Your grades, ec's, connection to Cornell through volunteering, etc. are great. I'm sure if you retake in April, you would do a couple of points better.

Tough decision, though.

Best wishes!

Angel

You have a 4.0 BCPM and a 28. You are fine. The only problem is that you applied late because you took the August MCAT.
I would work your connections. Your MCAT is both solid & competitive and your GPA is beyond reproach.

You'll probably get accepted soon with those stats.

4.21? thats crazy. at my college we have the +- system so an A- is a 3.67. however, a A+ is still only a 4.0. It's the biggest load of bs. 😡 😡 😡 😡 I don't think that the A+ should be above a 4.0 but I would much rather have a 10pt scale with no +- system.

look at your whole picture, if you took away the objective things (gpa and mcat), do you consider yourself a strong applicant? The mcat is a little low for cornell, but that probably isn't going to make it or break it. Also, there is a chance that you retake and even if your score is higher you still might not get in. There's no guarantees here, remember. Just because you have a 4.0, 40 mcat, and spent all your time doing EC's doesn't mean that you will get into your dream school.
