Intrinsic is called intrinsic because all of it's factors are found in the blood. Extrinisic is called extrinsic because it uses Tissue Factor (TF), which is not found in the blood but is released when tissues are injured. On a side note, TF isn't required for the extrinsic pathway (factor VII can be used to activate the extrinsic pathway at a *much* slower rate)
