Alright, so many of us are in the same boat, right?

We all have to take this exam, and lets be honest, it sucks. It's a roadblock and it's annoying. But we HAVE to do it, so we might as well enjoy it.

At the same time, I think having a 'support group' would be helpful. So why not post about MCAT trials/tribulations here?

Did you have an awesome study session? Grasp concept that you were having trouble with? Beast that practice test?

If so, post!

Did you have a crappy study session? Are you failing miserably at figuring out something seemingly simple? Just get frustrated at that practice exam you just took?

If so, post!

Not as much as I was expecting. The really hard passage on the test I saved for last so I had 16 minutes to do it, I was able to figure out most of what it was saying and got several right, but unsure/wrong about a few others probably. There was an "easier" passage that was Darwin-esque that I felt unsure of. The other experimental had some ambiguous questions.

I wish I felt half as good after my section as you do.

Heh, I wish I felt kinda worse because whenever I felt decent about a test I did worse than I thought. I'm sure your bio section was curved differently. You took 5/19 right?

Yessir.

I felt like **** on a stick afterwards. I felt awesome till BS though. Oy...

Yeah see I felt ok on PS, except for a bunch of questions I was unsure of. Usually on AAMCs even if I get it wrong I know at least what they're asking, not on this one. VR was ok, happened so fast I didn't have time to feel ****ty about it. No MCAT dream yet, first thing on my mind when I wake up though. I'm still hopeful for a good score but my mind is slowly eating away at any confidence. On a happy note in my first real semester at post-bac I got all A's for the first time ever. I was taking only 3 courses plus mcat studying but it still feels good. Need to repeat for the summer, fall, and spring and then apply.

Did everyone on this site stop studying or something?

Jeez.

I know right? I feel like the only neurotic pre-med left on here

hahaha I'm still at it. I REALLY want to know when the self assessment package is coming out, I need to plan time for it. They said late spring, isnt it past that lol

Good to hear you're still going strong! Keep at it bro, what practice tests do you have left?

Tons lol. I just finished all the TBR, Now I'm going to do all the GS, and finish my last 4 aamc after that.

TBR -3 12-13/10 PS/BS depending on which scale I use lol
GS-2 10/13 PS/BS

Still making dumb mistakes as usual :/

Well, so I just had to have an emergency appendectomy yesterday.
Good times...

Damn that sucks man... at least now you can put some observed appendix surgery in your application :)

OH and cliche I think I saw the same error in my BS section with the carbon bound to 5 things... for your question was there an enzyme involved?

Yikes =/ At least it's after you took the MCAT not before...

>> Also question for you guys: I think most of you guys used TBR right? How was the real MCAT BS. Did you feel like TBR prepared you well or did it really not matter?

Don't think so. It was an organic question. Don't remember much, especially not while on perc-a-derc-derc.

I just finished reading the hunger game series, 3 books,

stop reading here if you don't want spoilers

SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!

Seriously Eff those books. It was a very predictable series for the most part and I can just feel the setups coming miles in advance. The instant they make a character seem cool, helpful, or in general a badass you know they're going to die. It was an enticing story and you wanted to keep reading, but fuq man... such a bittersweet ending.

And really? The whole set-up of the initial plot was to save her little sister and given that they do overthrow the capitol and all, she still dies in the end. 3 books just to have her killed anyways.

Bittersweet, some good things, still kinda pissed though. I was reading through some forum just after comparing Diablo 3 to the Phantom Menace and it brought me back down to earth and made me laugh after some crying over those books.

Reminds me strongly of the golden compass series, except ****tier and I wasn't as upset by the ending.

Ok rant over

SPOILER ALERT OVER! SPOILER ALERT OVER! SPOILER ALERT OVER!

Just did TBR physics tests 6 and 8. Got a 10 and 12 respectively. I'm always getting the TBR "real world application" problems wrong. I just hope they won't appear on the MCAT.

Mine was too, when you're not perc'd up, do you remember if the reactant was "inebriated"?

Very nice. I decided to email them also. Thinking back to the problem I feel like I may used the wrong reactant, but I don't think it's reasonable to remember it at this point, so whatever.

Man I'm getting nervous.. It would be so nice just to take it once and be done, but you gotta do what you gotta do I guess.

So I have hit 26 on two AAMC's... 8 and 10. Both of them had a 7 in Verbal... I don't know if I should take the exam anyway because I am past the voiding date for the 6-21 exam... What do you guys think? I am freaking out... I get a lot of advice to take a day off, but time is running out. I know that i can do well on the PS and BS, it's just this dang verbal. I can't seem to get my scores back up around 10...

So you used to be up around 10?

What changed? Do you get more stressed now? Do you use a different strategy?

If you were at 10 consistently, then you should be able to get back around there.

Yeah I was consistent at 10 for a couple VR sections... I don't know what changed. I took some time off from studying, and I think that it might have been too much. The strategy I had before didn't even really feel like a strategy though, that's the weird thing. I just read the passages, and was able to find the answers. I think that the difference is in how I am reading the passages. I need to become more engrossed in them. When I get a passage that's really interesting, I do a lot better score wise. I only need to improve by 5-6 questions for the section, so if I can get one more right per section, I should be able to knock down a ten.

Anyway, I am not 100% sure what changed, but I am just hoping that I can get back to where I was.

Start by stopping the overthinking of things :)

GS-3 PS/BS 14/11 - 25 PS/BS composite

Yayy my first 14! =]

Not too happy about the 11 because I got a 13 on BS on GS-2 but whatever!

Not recently, the last AAMC I took was like 3-4 weeks ago. Since then I've taken 3-4 TBR and 2 GS. I'll be taking my last 4 AAMC 2 weeks before my mcat. (2 a week). Maybe I'll do one a bit earlier, I'd like to see how my VR is. Unfortunately its hard to tell because the technique I've been taught ONLY works for AAMC material, since that is limited I only do 2 aamc passages a week from tests I've previously done. I also practice the mapping with EK and stuff but the passages arent always similar and the questions are like 70% off. But yeah, I'm excited to see how I do on a VR =]

GS 2- 11/13 PS/BS
GS 3 - 14/12 PS/BS
GS 1- 11/12 PS/BS (latest one)

I thought I did better on the PS on GS-1. I got to review it. Ultimately i think these GS scores are pretty good since people say they overall scored 3-4 pnts higher on the MCAT than GS

Lol. So i've missed this generic question that is always asked on FL's

Which is the best reducing agent?

And I chose the Ion= Wrong!!!!! TWICE!!

Today I get that problem, and go AH HAH! I REMEMEBER MY TIP! There were 3 cations and MnO, I chose MnO without consulting the table. WRONG!!!! In the table they had a FURTHER oxidation of a cation, lmao

SON OF A BI!!

Learn the material, not the question+answer sets.

No, I definitely know it, electrochem is even one of my better subjects, I just make careless mistakes a lot :/ And thought my cation idea was a fast shortcut, guess not llol. Technically, if they didnt have any further cation oxidations, the reaosning woul,d be right without having to look at any numbers, next time I'll look at the data to confirm no further oxidations are present

I'm sure you did great yo!!!!! =]

I suppose you're right :)

So I guess I can make fun of the MCAT and still do okay in essays. Seriously, I had a blast with the essays talking about how inane things were and writing all sorts of ridiculous commentary. Talking directly to the reader, etc.

VR/PS/BS

Took the tests almost exactly a year apart haha.

This thread is so dead now... I'm trying to mentally prepare if I need to retake, trying to figure out what materials I will use and when I would take it. I think 1.5 months would be enough of hard, focused studying this time so I guess mid to late August date would work.... Hope that's not the case

Wooohooo congratulations man!!!!!

Any more tips yo?

Are you applying this yeaR?

I'll apply next year. Have plans for the next year and I'll figure out something for the one interim year.

Tips? I dunno. I honestly felt I did all I could this time around in spite of less than optimal life circumstances.

Keep a balance. I had a lot of fun even while I was studying. I made time for it. It was what kept me able to study. Compare that to last year when I just hid and studied. Didn't really hang out with friends, didn't go on dates, etc. It was terrible.

Double thread congrats cliche, so happy for you!

Thanks man.

When did you take it?

You've done all you can. Just trust in yourself now. Go do something fun. :)

5/31, thanks I'm trying to focus on other things, I have a good amount of downtime so this website gets checked 3-4 times a day. I'm pretty upbeat but if I do -3 from my average I will be devastated, anything else I'm ok with. I don't go to my genetics class this summer so I need to go over the slides for my test Tuesday. And I'm finally getting some female assisted distraction tonight :D

I agree Kasho, you got this. Btw, how would you compare tprh to aamc? Howed you do on tprh passages?

TPRH science workbook was great for helping me learn the concepts. For the most part, even the "advanced passages" required little information from the actual passage and were mostly pseudo-discretes to help you nail down the information. On shaky subjects when I was still learning like at the start of optics I would get 3/6 right. After months and months of content review I would get 5/6 or 6/6 on advanced passages.

So all in all the passages were great for learning the material, but if you already have a solid grasp on it and want to challenge yourself with difficult passages, this is not the book to use.

Yeah. Good luck d00d. You'll find out soon enough.

Hilariously, my appendicitis was a 1wk distraction as well.

As for as the 'assisted-distraction', I have the same tonight. Been going on a bunch of dates lately. Figure I might as well enjoy myself for the last 3 months in america for a while...

yeahh, i usually do great on a lot of passages (100%) but there are some in which i get 3/5 or 4/6 (im assuming these are the advanced since my book (2008) doesn't say)

I'm so sad guys. Postponed all this time, I took 9 FL's since the last one.

I'm averaging a 12 in GS PS and a 12 in GS BS.

I took my first AAMC (8) in over a month today and got a 32... 11/8/13

I'm screwed, verbal isn't working, I don't know what to do. I thought I did good in all the sections too...

Could be a hundred different reasons why you scored there, most likely you are burnt out, don't put too much weight into it. What score are you shooting for anyways? Really try and analyze your mistakes for verbal, try to really understand the questions they ask and how they ask them.
