Hi all,

I still have another couple of years before I'll be applying and am, of course, aware that GPA and DAT scores will play a part in how competitive I look. I'm curious about the more vague components on the application and was wondering if you all would chime in on what type/how much volunteer and leadership experience you had when you applied. Also, I know that dental schools look for a history of taking "heavy science course loads" in undergrad... I was wondering if anyone knew what that amounted to in terms of credit hours/semester or courses per semester?

Thanks!

I think you will be safe generally with a 16-19 credit per semester schedule, an example would be two 4 credit sciences, maybe a 2 credit science lab, a 4 credit math ( I was engineer but this can be anything else) and a 3 credit liberal arts. this adds to a 17 credit semester.

Leadership experience is important, after all, you're going to be the leader of a dental team. I'd say 100+ shadowing hours and as many community service hours as you can get. However, always choose quality over quantity.
