Like Brando said "I could've been a contender".

Cliches aside, I am beginning to boil over with anger, frustration and resentment over this year's application and subsequent admissions process. Thus this thread, a forum for those poor souls such as myself in the unenviable position of waiting for a slot that probably won't open and have no outlet to release nearly a year's (or more in other instances) worth of anxiety.

Here's my story: 32 MCAT, 3.75 GPA, URM, attended a CC, homeless for a year prior to that... an interesting life's tale to be told if and only if the adcoms could have heard it before everyone elses (applied Oct'01, waited for Aug MCAT).

End product of blood, sweat and tears: waitlist at UCI, UCLA, UCSD.

Anyone else want to rant and rave till the cows come home? Its cheaper than therapy (I should know that)and as they say, misery loves company.

    Why I'm foaming:

For the past year I've been a part of a Post-Bac program through a rather prestigious Medical School. I gave up the financial security of a full time job to try to achieve my life-long dream of becoming a doc. I was wooed with the precentages of those admitted from previous years. And I was out of school for some time; a few more classes, some workshops and seminars and the name of my post-bac would go a long way.

Just less than 2 dozen of us were accepted, nearly half reapplicants. Just a handful actually applied in late fall, we all waited to take the Aug. MCAT. Half the reapps got in, none of the newbies like me. And why? Straight from the mouth of the director: the newbies had the best scores, grades and came from the more upscale schools (no CSUs). We were all URMs and if there is such a distinction, equally disadvantaged. Yet no love.

    The foamy part:

People in this program who interviewed at the same schools as I and were on the waitlist less than I are getting accepted.

    Now the unrelated rants:

This year can bite me, from getting rejected from CWRU pre-interview (they cashed my secondary check the day after they sent me the rejection letter)to the infamous UC LOR screw-up (its been 3 months and we misplaced a packet of your LORs, we're only telling you now because we didn't get around to telling you earlier).

In the end, I guess I should be grateful for being interviewed (wow, what an honor).

    End of mindless ranting.

Wow, you have some good stats and I feel what your going through, just don't let it get you down.

I would rant too but I think I've done that too much on some of my posts already. I just wish this whole application process was not so damn random. <img border="0" alt="[Pissy]" title="" src="graemlins/pissy.gif" />

I am just wondering what you guys think....Do you think waitlists are in the middle of moving, barely started or almost over???
i am on three and want to get off at my state school...but they said they are full right now and anticipate staying full for a while???

i can sympathize with everyone's frusteration!

    Good LUCK!

A little less foam than yesterday...

IMHO the waitlist process is still on-going, but I think at a snail's pace. With all the AMCAS screw-ups and the high volume of applications, I doubt as many spots will open during the summer as in previous years. Also, getting off a waitlist once a spot does open is pretty mysterious; anyone know the drill? From what I've read in other threads, those waitlisted the longest come off first, then again in my own experience those who waited less than I are being pulled off. The whole thing is so random, except maybe in one respect... none of these schools want to accept ME :( !

Daredevil wanted to know why I was homeless, its was because I didn't have any money. My dad left my mom when she was diagnosed with cancer and her bills ate up everything we had. She couldn't work, and I couldn't work enough... we lost everything.

Thankfully the weekend is coming, can't worry about waiting when I know that the adcoms aren't even working.

I'm in the same boat as all of ya. 3 waitlists, no acceptances. But this is my second year applying. This year's app fees/costs really took its toll on me and I'm totally in debt. I'm already 27 and I've been working towards going to medical school forever. So much has happened in the process that it's still too painful to discuss, but I can say that getting so close this year and not making it will be especially bitter. My grandma was telling me today how I shouldn't let it get me down and that I should just be happy that I'm alive and healthy. But that even made me feel worse because no matter how hard I try, I can't help but feel like crap not knowing if I will get in this year.

I think the world of unranked waitlists can kiss my ass (pardon my french). They are saying they pull randomly from a stack which is essentially saying your interview meant nothing except that you were as acceptable as the whole lot of people that interviewed. I can't wait to get on the other side so I can discuss this with the person that proposed to employ such logic.
