I figured I should start this thread/support system. Good luck studying! :luck:

A VR of 4? The lowest I had was a 6, but i've been fluctuating around 7-9, but on average around 7-8. Maybe the 4 was just a fluke? Did you feel like you were guessing mostly on VR? That's how I feel on that section, but I still manage to get slightly over half right. Either just lucky or I'm just mediocre at VR.

And I don't think I'm going to void no matter what I feel like after.

For #5, I guessed on the first 3 passages because I exhaustedly could not understand a darn word, but later managed to understand and did fine on the remaining. For #4, I understood all the passages and chose answers consciously. For #7, I tried different strategy, dissecting arguments/facts/opinions stuff like that but did not work. For this #8, I still don't know how I ended up with the 4 yet. I guess I'll figure out during the postgame analysis later after I recover from the this traumatic experience.

Hey man, keep your head up. I think you should take a day off from verbal. I was scoring consistent 6s and I took a day off, re-evaluated my strategy, and then took AAMC 6's verbal and got a 10. You'd be surprised how much a day off can build up your confidence

Thanks fas, I'll probably skip AAMC9 to take a day off and resume with AAMC 10 on Monday to see how things go. If I can't get back to 8, I'll probably void it. Seriously, now I just hope I can get an 8 !

How'd you change tactics man? Do you take notes? How long do you take per passage?

This is my current experience with VR. I usually take 10 mins per passage up to like the 3rd passage. On the 4th one, I try reading faster to catch up on the time. I'd have around 14 minutes after the 5th one. I pick between the last two which one looks easier, then I have around 7 or 8 minutes for the last one. The funny thing is that for the last one, I have to skim through the passage and have to quickly answer the questions. What's weird is that I actually get a lot of questions right on that last passage where I skimmed through. Weird!

And talking about taking a day off, I've been watching NBA all day on ESPN since they have a triple-header today. Hahaha. I was reviewing AAMC 9 on the side though and just finished reviewing it. I don't know what I'm going to do for the rest of the night. Maybe review slightly. I also realized I got 1/6 right on the last passage on AAMC 9 about the antisense gene!!!

Believe it or not, I was doing poorly on Verbal because of SDN (as odd as that sounds). The thing is, people keep giving you strategies that work for them, and they tell you not to refer back to the passage, and skim the passage, etc etc. I tried so hard to do that and it wasn't working for me. I seriously feel like I had an epiphany last night. After getting 6s and 7s for 2-3 weeks straight, I randomly got a 10. It probably won't work for most people, but it's a weird strategy. My problem with verbal is simple - I hate reading and can't focus on such boring passages. I found that taking notes helped me a lot. Not real notes, I'll read the passage and have a pencil in my hand and I'll scribble random stuff (it's not legible). The only reason I'm doing this is to stay focused. I don't refer back to the paper I scribbled on, I just use it to focus on the passage instead of dozing off. With a pencil in one hand scribbling every 20-30 seconds, it's hard to lose focus. I'm not saying this will work for you, but it seriously brought my score up 4 points overnight. I'll test it out tomorrow on my last AAMC and I'll see if it's any good. Find what you're doing wrong, and fix it. And f.uck everyone that says you can't get good at verbal overnight! It's possible! Keep your head up!

Also, I've realized verbal is 80% mental. If you walk in thinking you're going to get a 6, chances are you will. It's crazy how much your performance can be affected if you lack confidence. Think that you can get a 12, and you will. As simple as that. If you think about it, all you're doing is reading a short passage and answering questions. If you treat it just like that, you'll do better (and it'll calm your nerves).

I can't focus today...I've been trying to do mcat stuff all day and I just can not focus. I think I'm gonna do 3 TPR verbal passages then just study for classes and call it a night

What are you guys doing on the days between FL's?

Used to do TBR Sectional exams / ek1001 in the areas i felt weak in.. now apparently i do nothing mcat related and watch The Vow, go shopping, etc.....
Is it so bad that i strangely feel too relaxed a WEEK before the mcat?

But i'm going to go over my last aamc now.. try to get back into 'mcat mode'.

HAHA I'm the same way! Study about 2-3 hours a day now wtf! 2 weeks ago I was at a solid 8 hours!

I seriously love the 04/28 group. By far the most relaxed MCATers I've ever seen on this site.

Then I'll walk in thinking I'll get a 20 so that it may turn out to be 10  j/k dude

but this is really motivational for my situation  Thanks dude !

Just randomly decided to drive all the way to 7/11 in the rain and get a big gulp. Which I havnt had since like sophomore year of high school. At least I feel like studying again lol

I also started doing this and it helps me too. Even if i never refer back to it and I can't really read what I wrote anyways but I think its working. I end up not having enough time to take notes on last two passages tho....I usually end with quick, pick answers, at least guess before time is up. :scared:

If I do bad, I don't even know what to do. I might just think it through and re-take it with my younger bro that's planning on taking it this September. That'll be a late re-take but that'd mean I'd have to apply next year instead.

As long as your application is in, you may be OK? With a retake above 28?

Just finished AAMC8. I couldn't help but lol'ed upon seeing the score in bitterness. A little of summary in the order of the test I took:

AAMC5: 10/8/12
AAMC4: 12/7/11
AAMC7: 10/6/12
AAMC8: 10/4/12

So, with this increasing delta of VR score trend, upon taking AAMC 11, the VR may become 0 ? Do you guys think I should void the coming real deal ?

The other person is me, but perhaps I've already been eliminated from the MD/PhD pool, given my VR trend.

Nah. I mean, a "high MCAT" is necessary, but you got an ESL thing going on. AAMC8, I got a 7. I'm non ESL. I think I got a 9, skimmed a 9, in AAMC9. If you're getting around an 8 on that, then maybe. I'll tell you how I am for AAMC11, but that may be too late. My original AAMC10 was 7, so I'm around a 7-9.

I'm not voiding: either I float, or crash and sink.

Hey fas, no offense bro, but I keep thinking your avatar is you. You're like the funniest guy on here lol.:thumbup:

Haha thank you sir!

This site is full of uptight pre-meds. Just trying to lighten the mood so people don't go crazy :(

It's mostly because I don't understand the passage and end up guessing a lot (I'm an ESL speaker). Don't know if I can even apply. If I get a 30 or above, I'll try. If getting a score in 20's, I'm not sure what I'm gonna do with my life man. Based on the score you reported, looks like you've been doing quite well with MCAT verbal eh ?

Since you're ESL, I think you should be okay if you don't do as well as others. I wouldn't sweat it too much. Get an 8 and you should be fine. If you don't get that 8, you should still be okay (make sure you tell them you're ESL!)

11 AM, going to bed (waking up around 7). How the fu.ck am I supposed to get my sleeping pattern straight

Gonna miss the OKC-LA game too :(

What happens to the kinetic energy when you keep the height the same but increase the angle?

WELL DUE TO TWO INTERCHANGING FACTORS WE'RE GOING TO ASSUME THIS AND THAT AND THEREFORE THE ANSWER IS THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT YOU PUT **** YOU PFACTION

Honestly I can't even read this **** anymore. I'm just burned out so much. I've read the same sentence over and over on Impulse. An hour just flew by and I have no idea how.

Holy **** I'm getting like 2/6 right on these TBR passages.

you should probably read the chapters lol. I was consistently getting 5/7 or 6/7 on most of the passages for the chapters that I read. Bio I usually did well just because of outside knowledge.

also just did 6 TPR verbal passages...
5/6
4/7
4/6
4/6
4/6
5/6

according to my calculations, that sums up to a score of: you suck at life, quit now.

WHAT! Dude that game is a must watch. Watching NY vs ATL right now while eating subway.

Guys, just chill. Take TBR with a grain of salt. I got 31/40 on the VR CBT 6 and 7. The first score was an 11, and the other one was a 9. Sometimes TBR scale is a bit harsh. If you take CBT 7 a 44/52 on PS is still a 10, lol. Just relax, and learn from what you got wrong. Also, typicalindian, that VR score isn't too bad. It looks like a 9 VR score. Just 2-3 questions more right, and that's a 10. Many would be happy with that score.

They say earplugs have be in an unopened box? Does that mean I need to buy a new box of 10, As apposed to my current box with like 2 missing? Earplugs are a must in this noisy ass city. And with people typing away for their essays like animals. I need my peace.

A box?? I thought they said as long as it's unopened in a wrapper. I have just a pair in its unopened wrappings, not a whole box.

Alright guys let's make this clear. Do we have to bring like a whole box of unopened ear plugs? By "package", does this mean the actual package that you got from the store? Because when I bought mine, I bought single packages in separate wrappers, not box packages of 10 earplugs or whatever. So each single package contains only a pair of earplugs for each one. There's no box or anything.

get an unopened box of 2 sets of earplugs just in case.

2 sets? Well I'm bringing two unopened wrapped pair of earplugs, not a box b/c that sounds preposterous if you bring a whole box just so you have to use one pair. As long as they are unopened in their original unopened "package" does not necessarily mean a box right? An unopened plastic wrapping is fine I hope.

What's the general mood right now...excited, nervous, freaking out, ready to get it over with, etc?

I just want to get it over with. I actually wanted it to be yesterday so I'd be done with it already in time for the Playoffs.

What's the general mood right now...excited, nervous, freaking out, ready to get it over with, etc?

I'm nervous as ****. I'm so scatter brained right now all I can think about it "what if I don't get a good enough score?" "Oh ****, I need to start studying for finals" "Damn it there's an assignment due tonight for class" "ugh I have to still find time to take AAMC 11" basically every nervous thought that can be thought of, already has been.

Also, just did 3 more TPR verbal passages
4/7
5/7
6/7

Can anyone give me some advice on how I can pinpoint what type of questions I'm missing and how I can go about fixing it? The answer key just explains why each choice was wrong but doesn't really tell me what I should improve on...

Nightmares kicked in last night. I had to do SIX writing prompts instead of two....I hope I don't have any more dreams about it :scared:

Just finished my last AAMC. Shooting for a 34 on the test.

Average overall = 34.25 +/- 2.2
Average #7-11 = 35.2 +/- 2.2

And I just realized that my laptop screen hasn't been on the brightest setting. Wonder if that would have made a difference.

Me: extremely burned out (can't even read more than 2 verbal passages anymore --> I'm toast), panicked, nervous, anxious

I'm feeling the exact same way. Is it even useful to push myself to study this week? Or should I just relax, so I won't be toast on Saturday? Ugh, I should have got a script for Prozac, haha.

Kind of a random question, but do you guys know if the real thing counts up the problem numbers to 144? (i.e. like the BS starts with #92 and ends with #144) or does it count over from #1 - 52 and #1 - 40.

Idk if this is just me, but mentally I like being able to see easily how far I have left and how far I've come during each sub-section. With the counting up it makes me subconsciously do a little math problem in my head sporadically lol.
