Hey Guys,
I didn't see a post for 8/13 mcat date, so decided to create one. Anyone taking on this day? I hope everyone studying is going well. Good luck :)

I was sitting on campus today thinking of how difficult that organic passage was, it had so many questions and I had to guess on almost all of them.

My hair is gonna start falling out over this.

Just starting for you? Hah!

This sucks.

I agree, it sucks. When people ask me how the MCAT went, all I can think of is guessing too much on that passage and rushing on the one after it because it took all my time. That's like 10 questions and that could make or break the BS section.

The on-off thinking I did well or thinking I failed has started so for now I have no idea how I did. 3 1/2 more weeks.

Anyone who was getting mid 30s on their practice aamc tests care to share their thoughts on the difficulty level of this test??
I was scoring mid-30s, like ranging 33-40 on practice tests...
i felt pretty good on practice tests, being overall confident in my answers with sometimes up to 20 min to spare in a section, but on this test i think i did horrible!!

I'm pretty worried!

Thanks for sharing that. I was scoring in the mid 30s (though never a 40) and I thought I was sitting pretty. I was surprised to find myself uncertain on so many questions, especially in PS.

Seems like compared to the practice tests on the real mcat, Verbal is getting easier while BS is getting a bit more challenging (though less ochem).

This was my second time around...Here's my advice: Stop thinking about it (elaborate, yes, I know). I freaked out after the exam first time around (thinking 26 for sure), and after two weeks i felt better (maybe a 32!). End result was a 29. My point: it is very difficult to figure out how you really did, and how you feel about it does not impact your score. Stop stressing and go do something fun. If you're just starting up this semester, find a fun diversion. I know it is easier said than done, but you will feel great if you can stop thinking about it so much. Best of luck to all!

Just curious, what were your average practice aamc scores? (if you don't mind sharing)

I scored around low 30s on all AAMCs
Highest score on each section were:
14 PS
11 VR
12 BS

EDIT:
oh, and I thought the test was fair overall.
PS and VR were ok. The only thing that worries me is the orgo section - I can't stop thinking about the two orgo passages..!

I'm getting to the point now where I can't distinguish whether some questions were on my real MCAT or a practice test. I keep thinking "yeah I remember that question I think I got it right, oh wait, that was AAMC 10 :("

Hey guys for the MRI/X-ray passage, was that one dealing with hooke's law? plz let me asap. thnks!!!!

I don't think so, the one passage I remember with Hooke's law even a bit was the shoe passage. Correct me if I'm wrong. I remember there was some flux-type question though

About 36. My last bunch of test scores were 36, 38, 36, 34, 38, 26 (I got sick Sunday night before test day...scared the crap out of me), 34. Alternating Kaplan and AAMC's.

Averages:
P: 13.5
V: 8 (but 7-10 range...completely random! Couldn't even predict based on how I felt it went.)
B:13.5

I made a 14 on nearly every science, with a few 15's and 13's, but verbal was incomprehensibly random for me!

I was averaging 31.5 before I got my 29. I do believe that you tend to score a few points lower than on practice tests, but i did hear of one kid who got a 37...his highest practice test was a 34 :/

I think Hooke's law was on the tennis shoe sole passage.

Sorry, I just realized I didn't really answer your question. I think my AAMC scores were the same as Kaplan's...so about 36.

I was scared like hell about this. Locked myself in the house for the week before the test!

Yeah, I guess expecting a tad lower than aamc average makes sense....though I obviously hope I hit my average dead on :)

I actually prefer the trend toward genetics and reading comprehension in BS and what I think are less abstract (but longer) and so less challenging verbal passages. So I like the real mcat as opposed to the practice tests -- hopefully that translates to a better score.

I was scoring solid mid 30s on aamc practice tests. I thought the actual mcat was fair, no surprises.

Agreed. i thought it was fair. I didn't care for the sand dune passage, though. I think we've all seen the similar one from the AAMC's...but its supposed to be difficult. If it wasn't, we wouldn't be so proud when that acceptance letter finds us ;)

Anyone else having a ridiculous number of MCAT nightmares? I had a dream that i received a 4, broken up as follows 0,4,0...which is impossible considering the lowest you can get on a section is a 1. Then later in the dream, it went to a 10,4,10 but that's still not ok with me but I guess better than a 4.

Then last night I was retaking and during the PS section, the testing center employees kept coming in to yell at me...which is actually what happened in real life during my 1st sitting. I kept putting my feet indian style because thats how I sit and they kept coming in to tell me to take my feet off the furniture. In my dream, they were just yelling (don't know the reason) and I only finished half the PS section so I got up and left without taking VR or BS. It was fun.... There are more. Basically, the MCAT enters my dreams every night.

I am so glad I found this thread...I think...maybe I'm even more nervous now. I briefly considered voiding my test because it felt HORRIBLE! But then all that time would have been wasted. My confidence continues to plummet! The other day I began hoping the MCAT was like the Glasgow Coma Score, where even dead bodies get a score of 3 just for showing up?
Has it not been the longest two flippin' weeks ever?? Ugggh.

And...what...was up with those bio passages.

OK, maybe this is freaking me out worse. I can't decide how to look at my score even. I mean I plan on becoming a doctor and making decisions that impact others lives...yet I can't decide if I should look at it, let my husband look at it (I'm not "Dan" by the way), or have a friend check it....Oy vay.

I am freaking the F out!!!!!!! I keep going over questions in my head and I know of 3 I definitely got wrong. Who else is with me? Don´t you hate when you go against your gut feeling on the test but you do it anyway?! Grrrrrrr

I failed, I know it. This is my 2nd time and if I do poorly this time then it´s definitive that I´m not going to med school. I´ve told myself that already. I hate the waiting game.
Don't worry too much. I swore to myself that I bombed PS because I knew off the bat that I missed 1 due to nothing not reading the question right and 2 just because of stupidity plain and simple and still got a 13 on the section.

Aww, thanks Uncle Phil. You're always the voice of reason. But why would you take the MCAT if you work in law? lol

Usually accurate to within a couple of days.

are you guys applying this cycle?

I am. My original test date was July 30 but I was only averaging a 28 on my tests. I pushed it back 2 weeks and averaged a 30 over my last 3 practice tests. My state school doesn't do rolling admissions and I'm just kinda rolling the dice with the rest of the schools I'm applying to, but I'd rather apply late with a higher MCAT than apply early with a 28.

I see... I got 29 the first time so that is why I retook.. I don't know if retaking this late will significantly hurt my chances even though I am complete at some schools that apparently don't care that I am retaking?

Did you indicate on your amcas that you were retaking?

Seen your posts, interesting.. Looks like you made a great choice putting it off for two weeks, hopefully it works out for you. My average was a 30 for all the AAMC tests, as well. I'll keep an eye out for you when we post our scores (good scores, of course).

BTW... Applying late, by itself, won't hurt any well qualified applicant. IMO you are absolutely correct in saying that a "late" 30 is better than a midsummer 28.

From what people on here have been saying about applying early, kind of makes me wonder whether I should have kept my 29 for an early application even though I had a 7 in verbal v.s. retaking

Submitted my AMCAS a few days after the August 13th MCAT, and it is still not verified...

Anybody know how long it is taking them around this time of the year?

I hope that it is processed by the time the MCAT scores come out on 9/14.

I submitted mine on the 28th or 29th of July and it was done processing on August 23rd, so my guess is that it will be done before the 14th or around there at the latest.

PS - 7
VR - 7
BS - 7

21O

Of course, I hope I'm wrong.

I keep thinking the same thing. One day I think I got a 20 and then the next I feel better about it and think I might have even gotten a 34 or 35. It's so hard to know how you did without seeing your score. 9 more days...
