So who's religiously going on SDN to find some indication of your chances of being called by the administrators on an acceptance you've been waiting days, weeks, months for. Show of hands everyone! Let's share our obsessive habits to all!

So, I am tired of going out drinking, seeing friends from awhile back, and getting the age old question 'what are you doing next year.' It's ok when I tell them I'm going to medical school at school X, but i hate giving the caveat about the two schools i might go to if i get in off the waitlist. thus i check SDN (not quite religiously, but close the last few weeks) for any knowledge regarding said waitlists.

  6. Second those sentiments. Plus you have to rehash over and over how med school wait lists work.

Throw me into the fray as another 3 wait list/no acceptances person. Crossing the fingers (and toes!)

We have the same sad story :( Some people think, "oh, you are waitlisted, that means you will get in for sure," while others are like, "oh, so you have to reapply for 2008? Wait, how old are you?"

not so much sad as numb....it's like watching a good basketball game where your team is never really winning but never far behind. The crowd goes crazy everytime something/anything sort of good happens. And then something happens and you know and everyone watching you knows that defeat is almost certain. no one says anything..

I second this sentiment. Although some how I seem to be sitting in the section of hard core, overly optimistic fans who keep trying to get my hopes up.

I wish no one at my work new that I applied to medical school. I am being laid off in July because of it, whether I get in or not. That is not the worst part either. Every couple of days someone comes over with a big smile on their face and says, "I hear that you are going to med school next year. Which one?" I really hate that question because I have to tell them that I will not be attending one until I make it off a waitlist. This conversation always makes me feel like a failure.

i have similar conversations daily. some people even have the nerve to respond with a, "yeah i know, this process is tough. my daughter had to choose between harvard and northwestern, it drove her crazy!" yeah, cry me a river.

 Whats even worse is that you see that twinkle in thier eye because they want to brag about thier kids. It is just blow to handle in this ridiculous process.

same here!...it is so annoying and depressing to hear that on a daily basis when you are trying to get that one acceptance, no matter where it comes from.

I'm sitting on here waiting because UC Irvine is going to make the first decision on my file tommorow (should hear back sometime between thur-sun). I prefered the schools that I didn't know when I was going to hear back.

But in a week or so if I'm waitlisted I'll be right back here waiting all summer (which would be horrendously painful). I feel for you guys. Here's hoping we all get our answers soon.

Dr. Nick -Youre being fired b/c they know you applied??!?!

i'm glad i only told a few people- and they've been good at not adding it to the rumor mill....

i hate waitlists. especially the ones where they wont tell you your rank.

I feel like i'm gonna ralph all over my shoes. :barf:

I wouldn't say I'm checking SDN for waitlist-info religiously right now--I check this thread a whole lot more regularly than I go to church :) (maybe that's my problem, come to think of it...)

OMG - you and I are living parallel lives. . . just to add salt to the wound no less than three people came up to me in a 10 minute period yesterday to ask just the same question! I wish I was otta my job tomorrow I am so sick of that questions but at the same time I really want to show up those smarmy people that figure you are outta of the running because you are on a waitlist. ARRRGGGGHHHH! Another one in the middle of my post - shoot me now!

I totally feel you guys about the bombardment of questions you get at work, friends, family, etc. Its especially embarrassing at work for some reason because the last two technicians at my work that applied to medical school got into Brown U and Stanford U, respectively, and I have none so it's a pain indeed :sigh: Well May 15 is finally here. Here's to life :hungover:rinks beer:

GOOD LUCK ALL! :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck:

    My name's rachmoninov3, and I have a problem...
and I've been checking sdn chronically b/c my school doesn't want us to contact them more than once a month, and yet I want to know how far they've gone into the waitlist.

So far, they've accepted 14 people off the list for certain(sdn #'s), but it could be more. I'm ranked #21. I wish I could gage how many will withdraw after the 15th.

But it's after 5pm, and so we can relax for another 12 hours.

If I get off my 1 wait list my girlfriend of 2 years and I will stay together...If not I go 1,000 miles away to my only acceptance and we break up. So yeah, I'm waiting on seeing some wait list movement.

  35. Word. I'm waiting to get pulled off the WL at the school that my gf got into for PhD.

joining the party, just found out i'm on uci's wl....and that's just one tiny little wl as opposed to other ppl's multiple ones...

last year i was on 3 wl's, needless to say it didn't go well.

good luck you guys. :luck: hang in there. it helps to make plans that have nothing to do w/ med school, so you have something to look forward to that isn't a big fat IF.

I gotta tell people asking me that I am probably headed to the Carribeans and they think I'm talking about a vacation or something. Then I have to clarify.

The sad and scary part is that even the Carribean schools haven't responded yet.

Well I said I'd try it, but she said it would be impossible while I was in med school. She is probably right.

Chalk it up. Everytime I see posts for my waitlisted schools I freak. I've kept SDN forums open every minute my computer is on and my F5 button is almost broken too.

Hopefully in a few days this agony will come to an end. :luck:

Shut up!! Jeff and NYMC havent responded to me yet post secondary either. I obviously am taking it as a rejection, but they should at least do us a favor and let us know officially, jerks. Maybe we'll get an interview soon, haha.

Aww. I think its doable if you've been together for a long time and you're willing to do the work.

I'm doing LD with my bf no matter what. At this point its a question of will we be 1.5 hr flight apart of 7 hr flight apart. But we've been an hour apart our entire relationship so we're already used to weekends.

the weird thing is that i thought i read somewhere around here that some people did receive rejection letters?

did they forget an entire stack of applications or something?

hahaha i'm not camping on SDN since i'm trying to keep myself from going nuts checking email and stuff but i'll join the group.

waiting on TAMU. i have so many things going for me, i just hope they can pull me in off the waitlist after the admissions dean told me straight up, "had we not overaccepted in the first round of early acceptances, you'd have definitely been in the second round." i know i'm gay for hanging on his every word. so sue me lolz.

It's my favorite painting. I think it is a perfect depiction of how people like us feel--going through the downs of the admissions process.
