Mine too. They said at the interview that everyone would be on the wait list until accepted. I’m hoping this status changes again today.

Based on last year's thread, we should expect something in about an hour or so. God, I'm so nervous.

Hey guys, I'm a current dental student here at USC. I wanted to wish you guys good luck on acceptances, and to those of you who do not hear back today; don't worry! I remember when Dec 1. came around last year and I found out I was wait listed at USC, only to be accepted a few days later! Many people in my class got accepted after Dec.1 or even interviewed after January. It really is an amazing school that challenges you, there are some people who do not like the PBL process, but honestly I've learned so much and the information has truly stuck with me. With that being said, PBL is not for everyone. I love working with my PBL group on cases and understanding how to treat a patient- not simply memorizing biological pathways or diseases. All my best to you all! :)

Did anyone who didn't get an acceptance get any email at all from sc. I only ask because last cycle people had gotten an email to be on some ranking list.

Right? it's kinda ridiculous to pay $150 K for learning it yourself. I think USC have high reputation just like Louis Vuitton vs Coast.. after all they don't make any different in term of quality... USC sim lab seem outdated compare to other school. What i looking for school make my money worth after 4 years i be armed with swish army knife have a knowledge of little bit of everything so i can go to work pay off debt. For example Midwesterm Arizona the facilities is state of the arts, new technology and learning constantly updated even though still cost over 400K but at least you learn everything includes implant. I've been also in Harvard and in reality they also not all that you thought it would be. Being in the school less established you will have many chance open up for you to learn a new technic be cause they are trying to improve the reputation too.. i think it would make your money worth it

Yeah I agree with you, I feel like schools that are less well known or established will be looking after their students better and be better receptive to feedback

I got accepted to USC but I'm having second thoughts about the cost for PBL as well. I was asking the student ambassadors and some general students during the interview day about their opinion of PBL and they seemed hesitant on it too. They said it takes some time to get used to but eventually its pretty good. Although it still feels weird to me that you pay so much money just to mostly teach yourself about the didactic portion

For some people money is no issues, they just wanted to be Branded no need a quality... Seriously these days when you walk into the clinic, no one care where you graduated from the end of the day quality service and knowledge is count

I got 4 other offered, and midwestern arizona is one of them, i am torn between other 3 against Midwestern Arizona.. due to the fact that after 4 years with Midwestern Arizona you would be well rounded General Dentist and right out the bash you can start making money to pay off debt. If i decided to go with Midwestern I will be working for a while and come back to get into specialist.

What schools other than MWU AZ did you get? Honestly, you'll be a solid GP from most schools, I've heard a lot of it is how much work you put in dental school too. If you are engaged and work hard, you can still do lots of procedures and get lots of exposure. MWU AZ is one of the most expensive schools in the country, as is USC, we gotta keep that in mind

For those that got in, would u mind telling your age and ur stats?

why age lol
haha. I only ask because I heard that age plays a role in the admissions process and usc mentioned that their average age is about 25. Just trying to figure out why I didn't get an offer yesterday. If you don't feel comfortable saying it thats fine.

Hey guys!! I'm currently a student at usc dental (D1) so feel free to ask questions about anything :) I remember how stressful the application process was last year

How do you feel about PBL, is it really us paying big tuition to teach ourselves about the didactics? How is the school culture like and how do you feel about professors in terms of being caring towards students about their learning? How are you liking LA and the overall USC campus? Thanks!

Hi, Thanks for the info. Do you know how many seats are filled up till now? Also how many more interviews are they going to send out? Thanks

To be completely honest, at first I was very frustrated about PBL and didn’t really understand the process. It’s very different than most people are used to. In traditional learning you get all the information taught to you and know exactly what you’re supposed to know but every subject is kinda in separate compartments. With pbl every single subject is integrated in case studies so you really learn how to make connections between each subject. It is not the best way to learn the material and it is a lot of self learning. However, you do learn how to really connect everything which is the way things work in a body anyways. So clinically it does make you waaaay better. Pbl is probably not for everyone and it is a learning process. But once you understand how it works, you start to appreciate it and realize how it makes you a better doctor.

I am absolutely in love with the professors I have had so far. They’re extremely inspiring and truly passionate about their subjects which makes being in lectures way more enjoyable. They also do care about how you’re doing and will adjust to students requests. For example, a lot of my class didn’t do well in our first practical test so the professor adjusted the rest of the semester to make sure we all learned the hand skills we needed. Of course some of the professors are very tough and will test your limits but in the end that only makes you better.

I’m not a big city person so moving to LA was a bit of an adjustment to me but I’m liking it. Of course I prefer nature over cities so it is not my favorite place on earth haha but I do enjoy living here! USC campus is gorgeous and I live right next to campus so I spend most of my time around here

Hi! I don’t know how many seats are filled right now or how many interviews they will still have. However, I do know most people last year interviewed between January-March. I interviewed end of January and got accepted in beginning of March. So assuming this year is similar to last year, there will be a lot more interviews and A LOT of people will get accepted during spring. I know several people in my class who even got accepted during the summer months. We finished finals yesterday and I’m going back home but I can try to find more information about this year’s interviews etc when I get back in January.

No problem! And let me know if you have any other questions

Does anyone know how long does it take to review our application again with the new updates?

May I ask you when you interviewed last year? Thanks

In addition, when did you get the invitation to interview in January? Thanks again for all the information!

Hello! A D1 here, I wouldn't necessarily say you pay big tuition to teach yourself because your tuition does not only go to your didactic education. Some dental schools may have a curriculum where students only learn didactics the first and second year, but at USC we begin pre-clinical courses in addition to the didactics. We have two pre-clinical courses in addition to the PBL cases that we do, so I don't think it's correct to say that you're paying a lot of money to teach yourself. I definitely could not have taught myself the clinical portion of dentistry that we learned (Class I, II, and III preps - so far) plus tooth morphology and understanding the minute details that make some dentists stand out. In terms of PBL, I know that some people complain about it, but if you honestly don't think that it is your learning style, then I would not suggest you accepting your offer to USC. Some people make it seem as though when you have lecture courses you go to lecture and all the information is automatically engraved in your head .. this is not the case. In addition to sitting through lecture, you must go home and study the material. With PBL, you read the case with your group, come up with ideas on what is going on with the patient, and figure out what you need to learn collectively in order to truly figure out where the case is going/what the patient is presenting with. After your session (which lasts about 3-4 hours), you go home and you create a learning need on the information that you need. This means that one person is assigned a specific topic that they much research and present to the group about, using credible sources. At the end of the cases we have resource sessions where a specialist on the case will discuss the case and answer any questions. If you do the PBL process right, there is no reason for you to feel as though you are missing out or not understanding the information. There should be a distinction between undergraduate education and graduate education and I believe the PBL process is just that. So I would hesitate to say that we pay a lot of money to teach ourselves; we're given the resources to do well and become excellent clinicians. Also, when I was considering USC last year, I did my research and realized that the tuition is not dramatically different than those of other schools .. you get what you pay for. The reputation here speaks for itself.

P.S: The new integrated board exam that we must all pass in order to become licensed dentists is formatted in a PBL case style. It doesn't simply consist of rote memorization (which is what is done during lecture, in my opinion), but rather a case is given where you must answer questions about it.

Anyone have any updates? Boy, I don't know how I'm gonna wait another few months.

In addition, when did you get the invitation to interview in January? Thanks again for all the information!

I got the invitation some time early January if I remember correctly.

Also, I totally agree with what Dentalmanaged said about the PBL! :)

Hi Everyone! It’s the D1 president and Vice President here! We wanted to congratulate you all for getting this far! We would appreciate it if those who have received acceptance into USC would send a request to join the official FB group for the class of 2023 :)

Please search for: USC School of Dentistry Class of 2023

We are excited to meet you all! Best of luck

I interviewed back in October and was placed on the waitlist like everyone else. Should I send a letter of intent or wait it out to see if I get in? I’m in state, GPA: 3.7 DAT: 21AA
