This is where you come to talk about how miserable this application process is, and/or how ****ed you're getting. All are welcome to play.

I currently have 4 waitlists. It seems every school I interview at gives me the waitlist. I remember when Darkangel (is that his name--the guys with all the cartoons) was on waitlists like crazy. Then he miraculously started getting acceptances left and right. i haven't heard back from 2 schools (MCPHU, Penn State) and I have a May interview at MCW (mcw mark where are you?). The schools that I HAVE heard back from have all been waitlists. Will this trend continue. Very Likely. what the hell am i supposed to do? I'M PANICKING...!!

Welcome to The Panic Room.

Hey Cavey. Congrats on the MCW interview. I think you have a good chance there. I wouldn't worry to much.

Just curious, does the poll look familiar?

Cavey,
MCW Mark is studying. He has finals and Step 1 soon. I on the other hand just have finals. Are you doing the applicant host program? What day are you interviewing? I may be able to field any ?'s you have about the school.

Cavey, come over and we can "practice interviewing"

But seriously, Cavey, what is that, like 7 interviews? Just wait a little longer and I think you'll get some good news. Don't start panicking until June 15th. I know you're a good applicant, but I think you got unlucky by interviewing at schools that like to waitlist people and procrastinate on handing out acceptances---b/c they are selfish. So please just have some more patience for a little longer (yeah I know you want to strangle me for saying that). But I'm really keeping my fingers crossed for you and I think you'll get in.

And it was a good movie, by the way.

p.s. and you're da bomb

The name is CAVEMAN. He no longer likes being called Cavey (I guess he thinks it sounds gay--maybe it does :D ). Caveman, I noticed that you mentioned the Panic Room in the Miami thread. Did you just finish watching that movie? You seem obsessed with it.

Zeffer, thanks for replying. I just remembered we'd exchanged some MCW PM's a few weeks ago (it worked), i'm gonna PM you tomorrow.

Actually, i guess you guys can call me anything you want, as long as you just call me (yes, me lonely and sad..."i can call you Betty, and Betty when you call me, you can callll meeee Allll..call me Al").

The Panic Room was a movie? I had no idea...i just made it up cuz i'm PANICKING. maybe i'll rent it...sounds like it's pretty popular.

You didn't know that Panic Room was a movie? Boy, where have you been? I guess you have been on SDN for way to long. It is currently in movie theaters. If you are a good boy, I'll let you take me to see it.

Caveman, how do you feel about your interview performances? Do you feel like your interviews are justifiably weighing you down?

I definitely feel that my poor interviews are not helping me at all. In every interview, I always go in determined not to say anything stupid or unnecessary. Yet, I always end up saying one or two sentences too much and then making a clown out of myself. For example, I was asked in one interview as to why I'm so sure that medicine is what I want. I thought I strongly and succintly clarified my viewpoints... only at the end, I said: "but I don't think one can ever be 100% sure." Everyday I think about different boneheaded remarks that I've uttered in interviews and how they could've cost me my admissions prospects.

Btw, it's darkmatter, not darkangel. Darkangel is that cheesy UPN show, no?

I heard somewhere from someone that if you are on 4 waitlists/interviews then there bound to be at least 1 acceptance. So, look out Caveman, 1 accept may be coming in your way :) I'm serious.

A. Caveman, I have a very good feeling that you'll get an acceptance. I was a silent SDN reader until the day my state schools waitlisted/rejected me. These were the schools I thought I had the greatest chance, and after that depressing news, I began to post... the first of which was... you guessed it, a post of frustration and panic. I am not exactly a good example of someone getting acceptances left and right, but I do believe in miracles, so when I saw certain SDNers getting acceptances, I said to myself, heck, why not post? Then I realized why we all eventually get in... we all share that sense of determination, not desperation, to make it to the acceptance pile.

It's not false hope... just think about your application being actively reviewed and the interviews you're still receiving... there must be something there that those medical schools want and it's just a matter of time that you will come through. When you go to your interview, you will have to believe in yourself and believe that they want you. I have this feeling that late interviews often develop into outright acceptances. To tell you the truth, my early interviews culminated into waitlists and holds.

Caveman, I am in the same boat as you so I know exactly how you feel. People tell us 'don't worry, u'll get in.' But it's simply impossible to not worry.

However, do not panic. Have a back up plan. I am setting my backup plan in motion and it's been keeping me from panicking..

It's also hard to stop worrying and sink into depression... what I do is I join the chatroom and yell at the lamers that pick on Dra. Foxy. You'd feel much better :)

p.s. "Darkangel" :)

guys i thought i had good interviews. i think that for some of these schools i interviewed so late i was basically interviewing for the waitlist (usf, maybe UM too), and temple CCLs almost everybody from out-of-state, but SLU i just don't get. my interview there was kind of impersonal though, since i had the lady with the typewriter that someone on interview feedback mentioned. so although there wasn't a real "conversation" going on (since she was always typing), i think i said some pretty money things.

i am supposed to hear from MCP pretty soon (they said they sent something on Monday), and i think they're still accepting Lots of people. so while i had a stress interview there (this guy was a bulldog in the beginning), i think he liked me in the end. if THAT is not an acceptance, i'm gonna absolutely Freak Out--i've been figuring that to be my best bet, statwise.

i think my biggest setback is that some of my interviews were at places that were already "full".

but i still have yet to hear from MCP, Penn State, and i agree with you Darkmatter, about late late interviews. i hope MCW turns out that way.

Anybody else Panicked??

Oh yeah, sometimes I'm panic and sometimes depressed. Most of the time, I find myself turn on the computer and log right into SDN. I am always surprised and amazed by the helpful, thoughtful and funny opinions posted by you ladies and gentlemen!

With only one interview early this month, I'm in a worse situation than you are…. I sincerely believe you'll get in somewhere soon, just look at Dra. Foxy. She was so happy to share with people her acceptance from Finch. You also have equal or more of interviews than she has, and it's always a GOOD sign!

Anyway, what I want to say, (and hopefully this will help you) figure out what to do from here, hang in there, have determination and strategy, and just keep on becoming a stronger candidate. Don't forget to get all the interview hints and strategies. Sorry that I can't help you anymore, but definitely wish you all the GOOD LUCK!

Hey Caveman,

When did you interview at MCP? I'm also anxiously waiting for them. (It's been almost 7 weeks for me) I hope that we haven't interviewed for a spot on the waitlist.

Dear panicers, I have something to add, say, in the worst case scenario, you are listed now and you don?t get in, well? Ok fine that?s reality, so next year you go through the BS again and apply to the next lower level of schools, fine say you get in then, made in the shade.
Then the great TRAGEDY you are fearing now becomes ?What do you do in the meantime?? Well, for most of us, we have science degrees, really high GPAs (compared to non-med school applicants) and probobly great research/volunteer experiences or recs., Well, guess what, this is the USA BABY!!! that can get you about 40-45 k next year in bio tech, not bad have you ever had that much dough before? Say you did a fellowship at the NIH, Rockefeller, Harvard, or some other big name, you are really competitive for 50k plus jobs. Not bad for a wet behind the ears college grad, DO NOT FORGET: YOU ARE ALREADY WORTH MORE THAN THE 80th %ile JOB SEEKER BECAUSE OF YOUR GPA AND DEGREE!!! Take the dough, have a blast, get into a less competitive school for 2003 and enjoy life, but really, you should be considering your job options now ,,,, the hell with panic?.

add me to this list. i just do NOT get it. i interviewed at UIC for MD/PhD and MD. you would think that if you got an MD/PhD interview that the MD people would be looking at your application positively. just about everyone on here whos interviewed MD/PhD has gotten in MD at the school they interviewed MSTP at, or at least somewhere. ive only interviewed at 2 schools, and one waitlisted me while the other is still reviewing my application, its in a "hold" status. whats going on? im panicking cause i only have 2 schools. most of you are in a much much MUCH better situation than me. pray for imtiaz.

Hey thanks for the compliments, Watchamacallit, you've made my day.

Panic hates company, so let's build confidence from one another and turn our dreams into reality.

hey Ivy. i interviewed at mcp feb. 9. it's about time i hear from them. it might take another 2-3 weeks for you to hear from them. last i heard they were finishing the jan interviews and still had ~200 acceptances they planned to send out. since you interviewed in early march, i think there will still be many that they plan to send out by the time they get to you. keep hope alive.
i like what irafleur had to say. it's just that it's a scary proposition. find a job in biotech for a year? i'd feel more "at home" working the fries at a burger king, or bagging groceries at a supermarket. know what i mean?
Good luck Imtiaz. Med schools should let you in just based on your signature. let's say it together, because sometimes we feel like prisoners--held hostage by our own dreams..."I AM NOT A SLAVE!"

hey imtiaz, what school are you on "hold" for, have they given you any more info since they let you know of yer status? I am sure they have a May 15th deadline to let you know something, call them...
