A few months back we all talked about how we thought we would spend the summer before class starts.

So whos plan came through???

Some of mine have. I am taking a summer course, and have shadowed some. I will shadow more later in the summer as well.

I'm on pre-retirement:
-Quit my job in May
-Took up golf
-Took up tennis
-making a bit of side money detailing cars
-A bit of travel (mostly domestic)
-Enjoying my last care-free summer.....ever. 😉

I can't wait to start school. I am bored out of my mind. Since graduation, I have:

Traveled
Read novels
Watched movies
Watched too many episodes of the Golden Girls
That's pretty much it...🙄

Ah yes...there with you all.

I planned on working this summer. Turned down an internship that paid $23 an hour just to have fun before the real work started.

Thank God for my savings account!!!

Done a few road trips, some hiking and biking up and down the East coast. Other than that just relaxing and having a good time while I can.

Best of luck to the class of 2007!!!

ENJOY YOURSELVES, travel, visit your friends who live out of town and party it up, b/c you won't be doing it the same way once you get in school...unlike what you heard you do have time to go out once in a while but you might feel guilty going to the extreme as you are now.
For those of you who said you were bored start prereading some Gross Anatomy, Physiology, and Biomaterials books and I bet you you will start having fun!

My summer plan goes well. I've been working so hard in the day time, and study at night. It's the busiest summer I have ever had for the last 5 yrs.

I am in Paris doing research, and trying to learn better French.

I've been volunteering, golfing, and traveling. Was in Japan for three weeks visiting relatives and having fun. Just tried the whole Atlantic city thing the other day and realized how dangerously close it is. Otherwise, I've enrolled in a summer class that starts this Monday (Accounting) as sort of a refresher course. Might try to sneak a Florida trip somewhere in the next few weeks.

Question- how do you all put those tiny pictures underneath your name?

Go to "User CP" (Top of the page) --> Then go to "Edit Options" --> Thne scroll down to "Change Avatar"

Then choose a picture or create your own. Hope this helps.

Every day has been a "Friday night" for me since i quit my job on May 8th. 😀

I am quitting both of my jobs next week, then getting married in two weeks. I am going to spend a month in florida before coming back for the big move. School starts Sept. 29.

My plans came true: I'm in Iran having a great time. Been here for five weeks and sadly leaving in two.

Pasha, that sounds VERY cool!

My summer has been filled with quitting a job, quitting research, and finding a place to live in Arizona.

Class starts in two weeks for me, so part of me is sad to see the summer end AND to see my undergrad studies end. Another part of me can't wait to get start on the roller-coaster ride called dental school.

Well lets see how quick you guys are. This is from a movie, and is pretty much in line with the topic. 🙂 Enjoy.

PS- First one who gets the movie wins a prize🙂

"I did nothing. I did absolutely nothing and it was everything that I thought it could be"

Name the movie:laugh:

give us a hint 😕

"I did nothing. I did absolutely nothing and it was everything that I thought it could be"

Office Space?

Nevermind, figured it out.

OfficeSpace

AND GOLAKERS IS OUR WINNER!!

Congratulations, you've just won a Thread declaring you the winner on the Pre-Dental Forum (until it gets taken off for being inappropriate and not serving any purpose😉 ).

Good job!

Second runner up:Critterbug🙂

Haha. No need for embarassing threads. I thought I won a Hawaiian vacation or something🙂 . That is one of the my favorite movies by the way. If you haven't seen it yet, go rent it. Now back to the topic at hand...

Im quitting my research job of 4 yrs July 31. School starts Aug 19.

Plans:
1) Buy a Tag Heuer or Rolex (lots of $ saved for vacation I didnt
take, plus an easy job for d-school).

2)Travel (Chicago or Boston)

3)Shadow local dentists

4)Go to beach every day, and party at night.

PS: The easy job for dental school is sleeping at a
house where people w/ disabillities live. I am
there for emergencies and moral support.
Its pretty quiet so I can study or sleep there.
Its great for school, and you all should look
into it. Most communities have this sort of thing.

Don't buy that Rolex just yet. Here in Iran my uncles are the only authorized distributors of Rolex and their prices are 20-30% less than they are in the states. Give me a model number and I'll have a price quote for you soonafter. My dad's cousins are the Omega, Longines, Raymond Weil and Cartier distributors also. In case you're wondering my dad is the Zenith distributor.

Oh My......🙄

I don't know about you guys/gals, but I would SAVE SAVE SAVE that money. You can't eat a Rolex:laugh:

It is has great resell value. You can cash it in at anytime.

Well, my point is, one should be trying to consider what he/she is gonna cash in, not buy . For those of us who have to take out loans to get through dental school, I'm sure the last thing on our minds are Rolex's.....at least those who have their priorities straight.

Personally I am thinking about cashing in my car, golf clubs, big screen TV, etc, etc. and keeping the things that are essential to getting through dental school (OK, OK I might keep the golf clubs:laugh: )

my dear friends a rolex is an investment! J/k, i'll stop.

Hey all,

I appreciate the advive. However there are several factors to consider. I have a very cush job for d-school where I can study or sleep. This is about 600/mth. Also, I havent taken out full loans, due to a 30,000/4 yrs (7500 a yr) scholarship which I earned w/grades, previous research, and DAT score. I have calculated expenses for the 1st yr and figured after paying all bills 6 mo at a time out of the financial aid $ I get, Ill have about 700 left a month for food, savings, emergencies, and the occasional rum and coke. I understand everyones concerns; but consider this I have worked a stepping stone job for several yrs, and want to get a ONE TIME reward for myself. Thats all. If my financial situation was tighter I'd fore-go the watch. I know that living on loans can make paying them back hard when you graduate, but this is as I said a one time purchace, that I deserve after 4 yrs of figuring out what I wnated to do. Ill probably by the Tag Heuer anyhow.

BTW Critterbug,

If you have a car and Big-Screen, I have been living alot more frugally than you with my research assistant salary, so all in all were about the same; we just like some nice toys once and a while.

WELL, sounds like you deserve it. Everyone needs to reward themselves every once and a while. But, I would get with PashaJ, sounds like he/she can cut you a pretty mean deal on a Rolex!!

By the way, know anybody that needs a big screen? 😉

Funny you should mention the TV. I just bought a new Mitusbishi 1080 High Definition television today. Nothing like 48 inches.

I also calculated the money I'll have floating around 🙂

PashaJ, are u related to any diamond dealer? I don't like cartier or big screen or any other things. I just want plain big rock. They are the easiest to cash in at any time. And light to carry too.

Oh man, I'm drooling

Mits makes a good High Def TV. Looks like you went the rear projection widescreen route. I have a toshiba tube 4:3 36" HDTV 1080 Ready hooked up to progressive scan DVD player. In my opinon its very comprable to the Sony VVegas. Picture is superb. I have never been a big fan of rear projection, I have always been partial to tubes.

How is your picture during the day, when there is sunlight in the room? Anti reflective screen?

I bet this thing kicks @ss at night when you got the dvd goin.....prob like crystal clear.

Diamonds are easy to buy. Only tip I would give you, since you're a girl, is buy a diamond that's a little over 1 carat because if you fall and chip the stone it's still over a carat.
Diamonds and other stones are not good investments right now because the market is bad. Then again you can get a pretty good deal with the hope for a good market in the future.

LOL Pasha... you are such a Persian (not that i am not). if i were in Iran i would only by small hangable silk handmade rugs and bunch of khatam stuff. i love those two things. i'm glad you are having fun... way to get ready for four years if dental school.
