You have all missed the boat. The absolute mother of horrific specilaties is critical care. Now, there are those who will argue that it is a regular fascinoma....acute situations, saving lives. Yes, this does happen but those instances can not possibly counter balance the ROCKS.

You know...grandpa is 86 with dementia, COPD, CHF, diabetes and is taking a truckload of medications. He is brought in from the nursing home with sepsis, is eventually tubed, lined, pegged, trached for weeks on end with endless complications and the family still wants everything done irregardless that grandpa will never ever have a quality of life if on some slim chance after spending hundred of thousands of dollars that he survives. Depressing!!!!!

And people wonder why there is a health care crisis!

A close 2nd is OB. During med school I ruined a new pair of running shoes in a tidal wave of unexpected amniotic fluid.

Psych scared the living daylights out of me one day then depressed me the next. Borderlines....need I say more?

Note: I've noticed that those who have bashed gas are on the path to surgery. Interesting...

I plan to make millions by inventing heated scrubs for we anesthesiologists....

SICU > MICU

Especially in a level 1 trauma center.

Ooooohhhh, how about some heated clogs, too? Now that's dreamy.

Totally agree on the critical care thing. I hope to never end my life in an ICU myself - please let me die at home without 10 tubes in me! Very depressing.

I think you should get serious about the heated scrubs - awesome idea for real!

OK, got it - no critical care! What's the opposite end of the spectrum?

Dude!

That's why you have to wear those long fluid-resistant bootie-thingies over your shoes! (I learned that the hard way earlier this week myself, when I got patient goo all over my shoes after a c-section.😛 Eww.) I hear your pain. OB is not my favorite either.
