During the mens short track speed skating they made a comment about Apollo Ono(sp?) our top speed skater who had an injury last year and because he saw an "osteopathic specialist" (take what we can get) he was able to recover much quicker than normal!!! cool! :D

It was a brief statement but I caught it.

I guarantee you that 99.99% of those watching heard "orthopedic specialist." Hooray for small victories?!?

I agree, it was nice to get a mention on tv but it would have been nicer if Apolo would have said it himself. Plus, I don't think most people understand what it meant...some of my friends didn't even notice and like previous poster said, I think most people thought it was about an orthopedic specialist...oh well.

yea you guys are probably right. He did stumble through osteopathic and then it sounded like he just threw in specialist after it because he had no clue what he was talking about....

Just a litle self depricating humor (which also happens to be true).
Before I became a health care recruiter I remember going to my physician and seeing a diploma on his wall that said he was an INTERNIST. I remember thinking that I should find a fully qualified doc and werent those internists supposed to be supervised.
Regular people just dont know. And in defense of my mental abilities since its known that I'm not med or pre-med I am in Mensa and can tie my shoes.

You know, one of the reasons I enjoy SDN so much is I get a different perspective on things and I marvel at the terrific sense of humor many members have. Some people take life ENTIRELY too seriously! Thanks for giving me a chuckle, HPSP!

Back to the original topic, I caught it also and was jumping for Joy trying to tell everyone around what that meant, I agree that it is a small little victory, but a great plug for the osteo world. I like Ano before, now I really am cheering him on.

The AOA should give him a few bucks and put him on a poster.

Like "Apolo Anton Ohno sees a D.O. Shouldn't you?"

Run that on TV after the Olympics.

What the hell...Wheaties will probably stick him on a cereal box.

hey that's pretty cool!! "ER" also mentioned us once, but the 3rd year med student said that it was alternative medicine he had learned in asia. don't know what really to think about that!! :p

Did the AOA general counsel jump on the producers of "ER?"

:)

Nearly everyone I know called me up and told me they heard that. I have been a little overbearing in educating everyone I know about Osteopathic Medicine. Anyway, to the nay sayers who are hopelessly stuck in a DO school, that should be enough to cheer you up and make you glad you didn't get in at your MD school of choice. ; )
