OK, here's a new thread...

EKGs are the bane of my existence. Every time I sit down to try and learn them the right way, I end up memorizing patterns by brute force! Would not be able to recognize anything, unless they come w/captiions

Whoops, didn't even know that there were going to be any ekg's on the boards. What I don't want to see are all these damn biochemical genetic diseases. Glucosidase, galactosidase, beta, alpha deficiencies; all I know is that they all accumulate something bad and are named after narcissitic people who felt the need to insert their name into the medical texts making my life miserable  .

definately AUTONOMIC DRUGS - they suck! (oh yeh and nematodes - they suck too!)

Error. This cumputer has performed an illegal function. Please come back in a month and retake the test.

Good topic. Things I will cringe at: biostats, pharm calculations, those storage diseases as somebody else mentioned, antibiotics (can't stand em), and specific culture media.

Three days to go...

mucopolysaccharidoses, proteins associated with intercellular adhesions, specific coagulation factors, rexed laminae, obscure biostatical formulas...oh, the list goes on and on of things i don't want to see this saturday!

Hemoglobin saturation curves can kiss my Irish ass. Defects in fructose metabolism, just for kicks. Pheochromocytomas ("When is the only time you're going to see pheochromocytomas in your career? In June... on the USMLE" -- our Kaplan path instructor).

it will be more or less over in 48 hours for me. Really, is it ever any worse than this?

cardiac anomalies, any immunology, any neuroanatomy...or a clock that says "O:OO" when I'm on question 23.

i really wish it were that straightforward, fiatslug. from what i've heard from people who have already taken it, the question stems are long, convoluted, and don't offer many "buzzwords"; instead, they DESCRIBE what a Koplik spot is.

anyway, as for MRI's, are really freakin' radiologists? okay, maybe i can identify a structure or two, but forget about identifying the types of hematomas based on an MRI alone (do they cross the dura or not, etc. etc.).

yeah, it's pretty much trying to know EVERYTHING. some say first aid is all they needed, others say first aid and qbank didn't help at all. i'm just gonna stick to my game-plan and review everything by friday and relax before saturday.

I took the COMLEX so I can't comment on the USMLE, but personally I had a lot of buzzwords. Actually, fiatslug I actually had a question where someone came in with current jelly sputum among other long descriptors, but that was all I needed........good luck to you!

Here's a few things I would LIKE to see:

Burn Pt has blue/green discharge on his dressing...

MRI minus head of the caudate...

Bitemporal hemianopsia with nipple discharge...

Apple green birifringence...

Skip lesions in colon...

Which enzyme do the statins inhibit...

The list goes on and on. Let's just hope they give us a few "gimmies."

Give me 0 anatomy and repro questions pleaaase... I was reading a Q bank question with a classmate today and when it said humerus, I pointed to my leg. Yeah, if they ask me where the heart is, I can point to it, but that's about the total extent of my knowledge. Does anyone know any high yield, quick ways to learn all of anatomy in 1 week?

CKent, the anatomy questions that I got were very basic. You'll laugh when you see them (especially if you get the one that has this totally weird foil in the answer choices).

To the guy who said he's having trouble with EKG's, I hate to tell ya, but I got an axis deviation question. Only EKG question I got, and from what I've heard from friends, the EKG questions seem to be pretty rare.

what i hate to see: antiarrythmics, antiarrythmics, antiarrythmics!!!!!! antineoplastics, immunodeficiencies, any epidemiological factoids like what is the incidence of Edward's syndrome, etc.....
