In the spirit of 'Things I learned on TV', we've all had those moments where something a patient read, heard,saw on TV 'trumps' any standard medical education....so here goes...


Yes, one Reader's Digest article on 'The Lifesaving Secret Most Doctor's Don't Know' about aspirin therapy trumped advice from someone who'd been through - 4 year medical degree at UTSouthwestern, IM/Cardiology residency, 10 years of private practice......

Yes, 'my cousin had a patch of skin that looked the same and that's what you've got, I don't care what your doctor says.....' trumped 4 years of medical school and a dermatology residency......

Any others?

No specific examples, but I have learned that the internet definitely knows much more than any doctor.
 
There's been numerous times in the ICU I work in I've had patients family members say to me or one of the docs "but on tv they just.....(insert x,y, z here)
