Ever have one of those classes that seems cursed? I'm not talking about a hard class, just a class that, every time I try to take it, something goes horribly wrong. I've tried to take it 3 times, dropped it twice because of pretty extreme circumstances, and had to take an incomplete last semester because I had pneumonia when the final came around.

Now, this incomplete doesn't lapse until next fall, so if I have to, I can try again. However, it has absolutely NOTHING to do with my degree, or my ability to graduate... it was just something I kind of wanted to try. I would love to freeze this incomplete, but I'm wondering if it would then be possible to apply to medical school...

Any help appreciated.

Anyone know? Maybe I should explain a little more. Freezing an incomplete means that, on my transcript, this class will always and forever be incomplete. Also, it means that I can't do anything to change it to a grade...

If you can take it again without the incomplete showing up at all on your transcript....take it again. That's assuming that you can get at least a B in the class. If you leave an incomplete, then you would have to explain it in your interviews, and I would advise you not to use "this class was cursed" as an excuse.

If you are a Freshman or Sophomore then I would advise you to take the class over since you have the time and because.....you never know....you might have to really take an incomplete later on. Think of an I or a W as a wildcard that you can only use once.

usually one has to complete all classwork in order to matriculate to a medical school. a school may view this incomplete as something that will need to be resolved before you can attend your first year. it would suck to gain acceptance and then have it revoked.

I got an incomplete on an Honor's Senior Thesis and got into medical school just fine. Nothing was ever said about it.

as long as you can graduate with a degree then you should be ok. of course you will most likely need to explain this if they bring it up in an interview or on the secondary...but outside of that you should be ok.

I guess that if it is not a requirement for your degree and was just an elective that you took for fun but have had problems with, it might be alright for you to freeze the incomplete.

Thanks, everyone, for responding! I'm a senior who's graduating, and this is my one and only incomplete. Mostly, I just don't want to think about it any more. The only reason I'm even considering this is that the professor who teaches it now doesn't teach the same stuff that my professor taught, so unless I actually go and attend all the classes, I'm hosed when it comes to taking the final. Honestly, I would much rather spend the next fall working and saving some money and just... I don't know... not going to school!

I think what I'm going to do is talk to the pre-med advisor, and if she has no words of wisdom, talk to a few schools. I'm not applying till next spring (see the "not going to school" comment above), and this incomplete doesn't lapse till fall... Thanks, though!

hehe... on a similar note, I got accepted with an entire semester full of W's -- 6 in all.

To the OP, have you thought about convincing the instructor or administration to switch it to an AUDIT status course. That seems more innocuous to me.

Was that because you never handed in your thesis or because you did not defend it on time to get a letter grade in your records?
