Everyday since the MCAT I've felt devoid of purpose and meaning. I wake up at 6 am each morning and sleep by 10pm. In between I'm restless and listless and feel like breaking out my notes and studying. Anyone else feel this way?

just chill... just taking this damn test is an accomplishment if u actually studied it and thought u were prepared... its just a really hard test that gets to u...ive learned sooooo much but the MCAT wont do my justice..i know it, it was just so freaking hard...4get about it, whatever you get u get, nothing is gonna change it...i dont think theres any chance in hell that im taking this crazy test again.... u can study ur ass off but it prob wont show up to the full extent of your efforts... im gonna try and get in anywhere and just start school already rather than spend another year learning basic sciences that r going 2 be hard as hell on test day....🙂 be happy and enjoy yourself

I have been really bored and had feelings that I need to be doing something productive. Mostly I'm just worried how I did and not looking forward to getting the scores.

Kind of know what you mean. Not that I enjoyed studying for it, but it took up all my time. I've been a bum this week. Plus that dread feeling of it is over, nothing I can do about it now. I'm having post-MCAT blahs. It will be better when school starts!

again, you are not alone...i think many of us are experiencing those post-MCAT blues. it consumed so much of our time and now it's over. it was weird, the night of the exam, i went out with some friends to try to relieve the stress, but i couldn't even have any fun.

let's just all hope for the best. i am sure we did better than we all think!

I was a bumb for a month after the apr mcat. didn't do squat except go on vacation one of the weeks.

Its august and I still haven't fully recovered from taking the MCAT in April and getting the scores in mid-June. So, don't worry guys, its a test that remains in your head for a LONG time.
I know how you guys feel. Even though I was taking classes in April, I never wanted to study for them...they seemed so pointless. Hence, my spring quarter GPA reflects my listlessness. THANK GOD I sent my transcripts to AAMC before the end of Spring Quarter😛

why dont u give me your notes...and distract yourself with a cookie?

OREOS?! OREOS?!! Are my notes worth so little to you? Into the kitchen and start baking you wench!! 😛

But yeah, anyone else also feel kind of like a hermit? After two months of basic isolation.. I feel like going out.. but don't really know what to do with myself.

I hear that. Wish we could have a party for the August MCAT'ers.

I haven't really thought about the test much after I took it. I figured what is done is done and there is nothing to do but move on and work toward my other goals. For instance, I have begun playing the guitar again and starting learning Latin again. It is so nice to have the extra time to do thing I truly enjoy and not feel guilt if I don't come home after work and study. Plus, since the test I have been working 60 hours a week and interviewing for a second job, which I just got at Amgen (cha-ching). So realize that there are other things in life, and do something creative with the extra time. Don't waste it away sulking.

I know how you guys are feeling by being restless and all after studying for such a hard exam. I spent the last 2 and a half months studying from 8-12 hours a day and now it's weird not having to study for that much. It's hard to relax because the exam was hard and it just feels weird relaxing after such an exam.😕

i would feel disturbed but im too busy baking and slaving my life away at the hands of a machoist society..oooh std boys going to get lax in his brownies tonight

Why don't you go to a section of it you would never imagine going to...? Check out books you usually never get, learn about something different for the first time.

Play a new instrument, cook a new dish, practice yoga, meditate. Enjoy time with family & friends (something you won't be able to do in a few months when you start med school.) Read travel literature and start a list of "things i want to do before i'm 30" then another list with things you wanna do before 50...etc.

Love, laugh, live..... Enjoy the feeling of having nothing to do, cuz believe me, pretty soon it's going to be a feeling you long for.

To keep the MCAT from becomming a central part of my life after the exam has been said and done, i've been keeping myself as busy as possible. This past week I've been soo busy renovating my room that i've had very little time to think about it. Only now that I am finished with my room have I had the chance to talk about the MCAT. My suggestion is to keep occupied to prevent yourself from dwelling over this exam because the MCAT is like the anode of a galvonic cell, it'll corode your soul until there is nothing left.

seriously as a second time test taker you guys will all be pleasantly surprised with your scores!
the day after the test i sent out resumes and got a job on monday to keep me busy
i honestly almost forgot i took the stupid test
just forget about it and immerse yourself in something you enjoy doing!

i spent the next few days playing xbox (a totally mind numbing experience - exactly what i needed from taking that test)... after that ive gotten into a routine of just doing things such as yardwork, research, and preparing for classes coming up next week...

what sucked was that after the mcat i had to start working on an hour long presentation due that wednesday so i didnt really get a break until after that

All of these things that ttsd described sound awfully familiar.

Almost as soon as I got in my car after the MCAT I felt like I'd messed things up. A few hours later while I was trying to nurse a pint of Guinness I realized that things weren't that bad.

As for how I did on the MCAT: I'm sure I did a pretty bad job of it.

But there's some hope. I can either go to a school that let's me in despite that

or: just do the damn thing again.

As for the time in between? either get a job (this is unlikely, I've been looking for a while, but it seems like an honors degree doesn't get you much anymore....) or put some volunteer hours into a good cause.

Now, not everyone should do what I'm doing; my point is go find what puts you at peace. In order to do this you need to get away from your current environment and do some new stuff.

And if anyone's EXTREMELY upset about it, go and get some help (ie. go see a counsellor/psychiatrist) While just about everyone's got friends, sometimes there's stuff that we can't talk to friends about, but at the same time it may seem like something is eating us up from inside.......

I sympathize with anyone who's experiencing strong emotions about the MCAT.

But no matter how you did, this is not the end.

And no matter how you feel, YOU are the only one that can
pull yourself outta this. If you want to get off the couch, then do it. If you want to go outside, then go. If you want to paint, then paint. Do what you need to do in order to get you through this, because if you don't do it, then no one else will

btw: if you want to bake, then do that too. And then send me some of whatever you bake 🙂 (hey, where is that nice lady with those oreos.....)

Cheers all,

Silenthunder

ps. any people hear all that stuff flying around about trans-fats in the news lately? Apparently there are alot of trans-fats in present day oreos ( enough so that a present day "light" oreo would kill you more quickly than the regular oreos from the 60's.
sorry to digress; I think everyone should know about trans-fats, and the fact that they're not on all nutritional info charts yet.

there is nothing wrong with chocolate soy milk ...or maybe they havent looked into THAT yet?

too much soy represses the male libido. Could be good or bad, depends on your perspective.

Definately a bad thing

Don't know about that. I haven't heard anything about it.
The legislation requiring trans-fats being listed in nutritional information on packaging supposedly went into effect recently. But because the FDA is trying to be fair to the Big Food industry, the actual appearance of trans-fat in the nutritional information could be staggered over the next 5 or so years (just guessing at this; I know that it definitely doesn't have a fixed deadline that I've read about).

I didn't know that soy depresses male libido.....
hmmmm....... so that's what.... erp... nothin'🙂

Cheers all,

the only thing keeping my mind off mcats is working out to lose all the weight gained during studying.

good idea! I've been doing the same thing. I've also employed the help of liquor and unattainable women to help keep my mind of the mcat. For example, the girl in my avatar; completely out of my league, yet I continue to dream.

How many days until scores are out?

50-15= 35 35 more days?

awwww poor indo boy
thats so cute ..and sad..god now i feel awful...damn guilt trips...
